Had . . .
- Pioneer receiver (circa late '80's). Paid $1200 in order to get the new thing called Dolby Surround!!!
- Hitachi 28" TV
- DbPlus 990 tower speakers, new in '89.
- Koss M60 bookshelf speakers.
- A cheap Mirak 12" subwoofer bought for only ~$100 on sale at Radio Shack (when Canada still had "Radio Shacks").
- Std Bell ExpressVu.

Now . . .
- Yamaha HTR 6060 reciever (bought 6 months ago).
- Hitachi 51" HD Widescreen.
- HD Bell ExpressVu.
- And just purchased online here about 20 minutes ago . . . the Axiom Epic 50-500 speaker package!!!

I expect to hear and noticed a little difference!!!! Ironically there was nothing wrong with the old system. Everything still works! But it was probably a little dated. LOL

Thats great news! I think you will be wowed by the upgrade. When I started my upgrade adventure, I thought I was completely happy with 2 channel tv sound for movies and was upgrading purely for music. I must say that I am so thrilled by the improvement in clarity for movies and surround sound is pretty cool!

Let us know how it works out.
I have a case of upgradeitis also :-). You will be thrilled with your new Axioms along with the rest of your sweet setup! I am envious of your television.
80'sMan welcome.... Real80'sMan should be along soon. \:\)

Curious if you ordered from the factory outlet to get your 10% + 5% discounts? Also, why did you go with the m50's versus the 60's?

I think you will be very happy with your upgrade.

Wow, that's going to be earth shattering for you when it's all complete. Enjoy!
Thank's for all the kind words. It's kind'a ironic. I ordered all new as opposed to the factory outlet because there was quite a wait time (especially for the rear surrounds, up to 3 weeks). After all these years and dreaming about upgrading I couldn't wait and get the discount. But on the flip side I got the M50's instead of the M60's because I've really maxed out my budget, and then some, already!!!! I hope it will all be good. Maybe there will be a future upgrade in my future.

You will see. Oh yess, you will see!

The Jedi Mind trick just can't be as effective when you use dashes.
speaking of jedi, does anyone plan on watching that new animated star wars movie that is comming out?

I will definitely watch it, but not until it comes to dvd/bluray

Yeah, I'll wait until Blu-ray. I never watched the animated series. Was it worthwhile? I heard good things about it, but I never looked into it.
I can understand not wanting to wait, but the M60s are worth the wait.

Let the upgraditis begin!

Aww, that's not nice. Let him get his speakers first, then we'll start in on him. ;\)
I'm already wondering what the neighbours will think!
Most of my system is under a year old and I'm already considering getting rid of my Yamaha receiver for one that decodes newer audio formats like Dolby Digital TrueHD and with newer HDMI like 1.3a (currently have 1.2a). Also looking at getting a BlueRay player soon.

I'm doing the best I can budget for, but as we all know with regards to technology, what was expensive last year becomes cheaper (and in some cases) "obsolete" the next! ;\)

I bought an older refurb Sherwood newcastle receiver for that exact reason. I figure with the next round of receiver releases, the new audio codecs won't command quite the same premium.
Puralator delivered my sub today (Friday). They said because they didn't have room on their truck, that I'd have to wait until Monday for the rest!!! That's what's called "overnight" delivery when you live out in the sticks!!!!

80'sMan,

As long as the Yamaha can accept pcm 7.1 you will be fine with a lot of Blu-ray players. Many Blu-ray players will decode the audio and send it as pcm to the receiver. Since this is what the receiver would do anyway there is not going to be any difference. The PS3 will do this and is probably the best buy for Blu-ray players anyway. I say save your money and not upgrade your new receiver if you can.

Yet another Albertan Axiomite, welcome to the family.

You have neighbors in Hardisty? Huh, who knew. ;\)
Sorry for replying after quite a bit of time. I've been busy re-watching many of my movies. All I can say is "WOW!!!"
OK, ok, maybe I can say something else, like, "Why did I wait so long?!?!?!" \:D

After setting up the speakers with my Yamaha receiver's YPAO and a little more tweaking with the sub, I'm am totally impressed and it was worth every penny. The speakers sure have good weight to them too. Even the little surrounds feel solid.
Besides the subwoofer's obvious impact, I was really suprised what a good, proper, center channel makes! Before I had decent towers (DbPlus 990's), a so-so sub, tiny surrounds, and the 51" TV's speaker for a center channel.

I know, I know. I was thinking the same as you . . . "Oh YUCK!!!". \:D That's why, after like 3 months of research and listening to speakers at the usual stores and dealers, I went with Axiom. Ironically even though I never heard them before!!! There was a lot of talk on other forums from people who did the same as I, and after they got their Axiom's, they were not disappointed. Well, after rolling the dice with an educated guess, I must say I am also NOT disappointed.

A big thing for me is that they are Canadian speakers. This is important to me. I really like the other Canadian speakers that I've owned (the old Db's were also Canadian) or heard. Honestly, I almost bought PSB's!!! They were a darn close 2nd. But the value for the $$$ advantage went to Axiom.

Sorry for the long winded reply. I'm just totally thrilled.

PS; I literally had a tear welling up in my eye listening to my house take a serious pounding watching the movie U-571!!!
80'sman, I have to admit, I had a similar thing happen. It was the first time I watched the Battle of Pelenor field scene from ROTK and I heard the huge elephants off in the distance. the pounding almost so low I couldn't hear it, but boy could i feel it. I giggled like a little kid, it was so involuntary.
Like a little kid! Yup. I'll admit it . . . that was me! I almost needed a cigarette afterwards!! LOL
Congrats 80's man... reminds me of exactly how I felt when I first got the Axioms. \:\)
