The sub is pretty important in my opinion. I would go with either 60's or 80's, some Qs8's, and a sub (at least the 350), and get the center channel later. You can use phantom mode to simulate the center channel until you get some more change in your pocket working for the city. \:\)

Not really just get the M22s and be done with it \:\/

I've owned both the 60's and 80's. They are both great speakers. The 80's will give you a little more detail, because of the dual tweets and mid's. However, the 60's are still very detailed.

Also, the 80's give you a bit more in the bass category, I believe based on larger cabinet. Again, the 60's put out some potent bass. I even had one audition where the guy didn't believe I had my sub turned off, the 60's and 80's are that good.

You have to decide based on your budget, if you want a killer bookshelf like the 22's that incorporate greate with a sub. Or, get some larger floorstanders like the 60's and 80's. The 80's are the king of the hill for a reason, but the 60's are a darn close second....

I absolutely LOVE my m80's... but I have not heard the m60's or m22's so I really can't compare anything to it.

I will tell you that I planned on buying the m60's, but found someone in Kansas city who would audition the m80's... After hearing them I just couldn't get anything less.

How long would you have to wait to get a sub?

This comes down to the usual "what kind of stuff are you going to listen to the most, how big is your room, how big is your listening area ?" questions.

Big listening areas tend to like bigger speakers (yes I realize that is a terrible oversimplification but within a single brand it works pretty well). If you need/want 60s or 80s don't get the 22s and plan to trade up; you're better off even buying just mains than buying the wrong speakers.

If I were watching a lot of action movies I think I would miss the sub even with M60s. Not sure about M80s but I think even there the sub would make a big difference. If you have 60s or 80s you can live without a center for a while though... only concern with 22s and no center and "loud" is that you may end up pushing the 22s too hard... the center puts out a lot of the energy on many films.

I would probably start with 60s or 80s plus the sub I wanted (no center or surrounds), then add from there, but that's just me.

If I were restricted to your choices, I would go with #3 like everyone else. Why wouldn't I choose M80s if I had the choice (and the room) ?

I have a relativey small living room (2150 CF or so) and it works great with my m80s. My living room does open up to a kitchen with another 1200 cf or so and a hallway though.

I think my room dimensions are 19 x 14 x 8 or so.

Since you are going to Axiom for an audition, I wouln't worry about it too much. One combo will stand out above the others for you.

I agree with Fred, you will know which combination is best for you after your audition.

Brandon, once you get to Axiom all your questions will be answered. I will suggestt he same as Sirquack. The M80s are the top of the line for a reason and the M22s are the top of the line bookshelf for a reason. It's up to you to make the final decision.
