Will the DSP in the EP500 protect the sub?

Question for you guys. Can the DSP prevent the sub from bottoming out too much? If you read the product literature, it pretty much says that the DSP will prevent dips and peaks and prevent it being over driven. Is that the consensus?

I ask because with DynamicEQ feature of Denon3808/Audyssey, my room literally shakes. Before DynamicEQ, the sub was impressive, but since I don't crank the volume too high, the bass was manageable. Now, DEQ does its job and boosts the LFE when required. I'm really afraid I may damage the subwoofer. The sound isn't distorted anything, but I don't want to take any chances. thanks.

As I understand it, that's what it's designed to do. Might be worth taking some dB measurements at the peak.

Hansang, the DSP is programmed to prevent over-driving the woofer. It will play right up to its limits and no further, but that's still ridiculously loud. $\:\)$

Never heard of anyone complaining that their room was shaking too much from a sub. Normally people are thinking it doesn't shake enough. :P

It does, Mojo and I managed to bottom out the PB13-Ultra, while the EP600 never complained once, this was at insane levels too, I believe we were pushing 110-115db peaks.

I've cranked by EP500 as hard as my Yamaha 659 can push. No problems. Just house shaking fun.

Not complaints....Just scared!

Thanks everyone. I kinda knew EP500 would be a bit over the top for my room, but what the hell!! For the same reason, I may pick up the 1400-8, "just so I have'em" $\:\)$

My room is only 14x10... and I knew the EP500 was a bit over the top for it too but, in the end, I am very happy I bought it. The first time you fire up a Blu Ray and actually feel the pressure change in the room and the hairs on your arms move when the sub starts firing, you'll know you made the right call.

Please remind me the difference between the Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume control? Or are they one in the same?

Ive had the Ep600 playing as loud as it would go and it didnt bottom out. Just kept turning it up until it wouldnt get any louder anymore. They pretty much state its indestructible although I'm sure it could probably be fried playing sine waves at full power or something.

I'm curious whether I would use these new features given that now, even after rerunning Audyssey with the tips document Jay posted, I still prefer the sound with Audyssey off. The Audyssey sound is MUCH better now than it was before I used all of the instructions in that document, but I still find the bass response to be attenuated more than I like when using Audyssey (which maybe is the way it "should" sound, but not my preference).

If I remember right, those here who purchased the upgrades felt Audyssey sounded better after the upgrade with these features turned on, so it could be that I'd be in the same boat. If anyone who purchased the upgrades felt this way before the upgrade, please let me know as it'll make me feel better about sinking the $100 into the upgrade.
