Please help? Will a QS8 be that much better than the QS4 given the size of this room? Or will I be just fine with the QS4. Any help is appreciated.

IMHO, you'll be just fine with the QS4s. I'm happy with mine, and my room is slightly bigger than yours.

In a 12x13 room, I have the QS4's. The front speakers are the original Paradigm 7se's (great bass extension), all run thru an HK520 without a subwoofer. All speakers blend quite well and the surround effects (especially DVD's with a good soundfield, like Blade II, or the DTS LOTR:FOTR) are GREAT! As Alan frequently points out, you NEED the QS8 only if you want high volume in a big room. 12x10 is small. If you don't like them, you can always trade up.

Thanks for the info. I will get the QS4.

Remember this too, if you are moving anytime soon, you might want the QS8 to save upgrading later.

duong

if you have the money, go with the better speaker. I had the QS4's and loved them until I got the QS8's. They were clearly much better, and they are more efficient. I would go with the QS8's if it won't affect your pocketbook that much. If you're on a tight budget, though, the QS4's will be just fine.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am on a tight budget. Now that I have read more about the QS8 and QS4 and realized that I need to buy special stands for those speakers, I might have to go with the m2i temporarily as surround because I can use my old speaker stand for it.

Just wall mount them. The stands place the speakers too low anyway.

I can't wall mount them because there is a window on one side. The only other option is to mount them on the wall behind me, which is where my couch is backed up against. I don't know if that is a good idea. What do you guys think about the m2i as surround?

run a long 2 by 4 across the window, and use it to mount the speakers!

Don't give up on the QS4 yet. How much room do you have between the top of the window molding and the ceiling? I have 12" for all window and door moldings. My right surround is mounted above the door, giving 6" clearance for the top woofer to bounce off the ceiling (it would be a little too tight - only 4" - with the QS8). Both QS4's are 13" from the rear wall.

Sounds like a pretty good place to me! I would still "experiment" by having a couple of people to hold the surronds at various places/heights before drilling into the wall, but that wall is in fact almost a "text book" location. Now that I learned that there is no dipolar elements in the QS surrounds , I would not care if they are facing the sides or towards the front, as long as they are to the side or a bit to the rear of the listener.

One of my QS8's is above a window with about 6 inches of clearance from the roof and it sounds great.

After some convincing by Marc at audioshop, I bought the m2i for surround. I hope it will turn out good. Thanks for all the advices.
