Love this forum! It's the ONLY place to get honest answers.

I'm considering 4 different speaker combinations and need your advice on which combination would be best for me.
I spend almost all of my time in my bedroom (disabled) and would use it mainly for HT with a little music use. The bedroom is 14'X 15'.

In order of preference:
1) m60ti's, vp150, qs8 (SVS or HSU sub later on?)
2) m60ti's, vp150, qs4 (sub later)
3) m22ti's, vp150, qs8 (sub later)
4) m22ti's, vp150, qs4 (sub later)

Also, which receiver for these combo's (under $500 US?)

I've got the receivers down to:
1) Kenwood (VR-6070,6060)
2) Har/Kar (220,225,320,325,520)
3) Denon (1082,1601,1602,1603,1802,1803,2802,2803)
- ? Yamaha (v1300)
- ? Marantz (sr9200)

I think all I need is a 5.1 system?, but would I be wiser in the long run to go with 6.1?

Thanks everybody, I really would appreciate your help in this.

My system is in your options. I have the Yamaha with the M60's, QS8's, VP150 and EP175 in a 6.1 configuration. I simply love it. I like the 6.1 better than 5.1, but remember, not all movies are 6.1 right now. I'm guessing all your options will make you smile. I would definitely get a sub, since you say the setup will be mainly for ht. There's nothing like a little slam with your movies. I'm sure that you'll get some good advice on this forum. Good luck with your search.

I'd suggest that for a room that size you wouldn't need the M60 and that for just a little more money the M22s plus a sub such as the Hsu VTF-2 might be the better way to go. Note Craig's enthusiastic report on that combination("Advice" board by "spiffnme"). So far as the center channel, I continue to prefer a vertical center such as the M2, but the VP150 has gotten considerable praise. You might be interested in this thread which discusses vertical centers and also the VP150. Either the QS8 or QS4 should be fine for your room.

Of the receivers you mention, the Kenwood 6070 strikes me as probably the best bargain.

Aloha!

Two cents in here from me. In a room that small, you could easily live with the m22s. But I agree, that for HT you should get a sub. If you go with the M60s (which I have with a sub) you could put off the sub for a while. One good thing about the 60s is that you won't need stands! If $ is no problem, take the VP150 and QS8s. However, because your room is small, you could easily do with the QS4s. I think it comes down to what is a priority and $. With the right choices, you could get the sub right away.

In the AV Receiver category, I would first favor the H/K or Denon. I personally have an older Sony (and I like it just fine), but most folks in this forum have had good luck with Denon, H/K and Onkyo. All you really need is a quality unit with 75 - 100w amps. No more is needed for your situation (esp. with the M60s)

Good Luck - and let us know what you decide!

Don't forget the moving bug as well. Buy for a future move that might be in the works. I did and I'm glad to have done it. My present system will be perfect for the house we are building.

JohnK,

How do you buy just one m2i for the center. Does Axiom allow you to do that? And if so, how much just for one?

Hi,

You can buy singles of any Axiom speaker for half the price of a pair. There is a line to click on for a single order.

Regards,
