I do not have a subwoofer. I watched the movie last night and there is a scene where Bumblebee blows out the windows of all the cars in a lot. I was wondering if there was any bass information that I am not hearing due to it being a very low frequency.

Transformers, in general, has a good amount of bass throughout the movie. I know the scene you are talking about, and I remember some bass, but I am not sure how much because it was more of a "shattering glass" sound if memory serves me correctly.

I would say that you are definitely missing bass for that movie as a whole without a sub. You have M2 fronts, correct? If so, then you will be amazed when you get a sub (I know that you've been looking for one).

Transformers (HD DVD version anyway) doesn't really have killer LFE. If you want LFE, the first movie that comes to mind is "the flight of the phoenix"

Even the Iron Hide Flip scene isn't that LFE intensive. HDDVD version came with Dolby+ only though.

I find Transformers has killer bass throughout the entire the movie.

agreed. Another good movie for LFE is Iron Man

Definitely!

I thought iron man and transformers both had good lfe. Lot's of good dialogue in iron man as well to test out the center channel speaker also.

I didn't really care for the movie but war of the worlds has a couple scenes when the machines "talk" which rumbled pretty good.

I haven't seen flight of the phoenix but I'll add that to my list. I like watching movies that give my sub a work out.

Master and Commander is a given for LFE.

I have it on HD-DVD and find plenty of bass. The other suggestions here are good too. Master and Commander has great surround effects too (creeking ships, gun shots, etc, etc).

I borrowed a friend's sub today. I thought that scene would have a little more kick to it. The rest of the movie sure did though. I am missing out on a lot. The air base attack had lots of LFE.

Flight of the Phoenix is a decent movie. The beginning has some nice imagery and the airplane propellers really get the air moving around in your room.

I have watched WoW many times, but never with a sub. There is a scene where some jets fly over the house where the sudden dynamics have caught me off guard and then the battle following would put my old amp into circuit protection.

One scene that I have listened to over and over is at the beginning when the machine comes out of the ground. The Jeep grand Cherokee that gets "spit out" and crushes the other car is a good test to see if you amp has any guts. My old amp could play it loud but with no detail. Now it is rippling with detail and nuances of crushing metal. I gave my WoW dvd away to my friend's kids last summer because I thought a Blu Ray version would be out by now.

And the plane crashing while they are in the basement is scary without a subwoofer. I can only imagine what it is like.

So what subwoofers are you looking at buying? \:\)

I'm not sure. I may not get one. It's fun but I'm not really a bass head afterall. It does make a difference but I think I can still enjoy movies without it.

Of course there's the scadoosh scene in Kung Fu Panda, and Darla's tap scene in Nemo.

And I agree that Master and Commander has a superb surround effects.

Basshead or no Basshead - I can not believe that I waited 51 years to get a decent Sub. My youngest daughter loves to demo the system using Nemo - inside the whale scene, EAC scene (my fav) and of course the tapping scend.
