I hav just installed my centre speaker andwas wondering if this was the right way to do it.

I have placed the speaker at the same height of my M2 bookshelf speakers tweeters. (900mm from memory)

Is this correct or should I put it lowere and tilt it up?

Thanks

Paul

The main goal, if possible, is to have the tweeters of your left/right/center to be at ear level when seated. Often, this is not possible with room placement, so do the best you can. If the center is below, you can angle it upward. Many of us flip the VP150 cabinet over and use the built in angle, just make sure you fip the grill cover over so "Axiom" isn't upside down. \:\)

I don't have a VP150 yet, but since you mentioned the angled side. I've been wondering what the measurement of that angle is. That'd help me plan a little bit into the future.

But what if he want's his 'Axiom' upside down?

Chris, I went to measure the angle on the VP150 with my digital gauge for you, and I dropped the damn speaker on it's corner!! Dented my hardwood floor, and chipped the corner of the speaker a bit, I think it's ok soundwise but...KCUF!!

The angle is around 17 deg by the looks of it.

Duuude, that sucks.

I must have taken my 'STOOOPID' pill today, it took me 15 minutes to figure out what the heck 'KCUF' meant! lol

But seriously, the matter at hand... that really is a bummer dude! I hate when I do clumbsy stuff like that, nothing gets my goat more than myself doing something thoughtless and accidentally breaking/scratching/denting/scuffing something of value. For instance, when I first got my Emotiva amp, I was carrying the monster back into the HT closet. I lifted it over the M80 that stands 2 feet from the door, but didn't lift it up quite high enough to clear the top of the speaker. Consequently the corner (very sharp) of the amp caught the Axiom and put a little gouge in it. Oh God, you would have thought I'd just ran over my dog I reacted so strongly. Looking back it was quite an over reaction on my part, I took a black 'Sharpie' and colored in the small nick. And now, even if I offered up $20 bucks to the first person to find the blemish without any knowledge of it what-so-ever, it would take a good 10 minutes of studying the speaker carefully, before anyone would ever find it. I mean you can't even tell when standing right beside it, nevermind when you're half way across the room sitting on the couch, where anyone who's ever going to be in this room will most likely be. So there really was no need to kick myself so hard over it. But it's the fact that had I just lifted the amp a half an inch higher in the first place, or hey, maybe even move the darn speaker out of the way right.... then it wouldn't have happened.

But that's always the way I've been when I've done something stupid. I hold my kids to high standards, by myself to even higher standards. So when I go and do something I would have yelled at my kids for doing, then I usually cuss myself out even worse! ;\)

lol

It's more of a 'mashed' corner than say a chip but it's playing fine, ah well.

I made myself feel better by remembering one of my local Paradigm dealer's little incident late last year when he took delivery of his new Studio 100 V5's, promptly dropping one of the boxes as it was coming of the delivery truck....dinged the rosenut veneer and cut the flange on one of the woofers.

That sucks Adrian. I almost dropped mine trying to get it into place in the entertainment system. It is not light by any means!

Doh! Sorry to hear that. Is there anyway you can patch it up?
Posted By: ClubNeon Re: Centre speaker placement - 09/03/09 04:50 AM
Oh man, that sucks. Sorry that my question caused such grief. But I do thank you for the info.

Right now my center is angled up 4° with MoPads. That's just about right. 17° would be too much, but if I use the MoPads backward with the spacer I can subtract 8 from that, and end up with 9° of up-tilt. That should be pretty close to what I need too.

I’m betting your speaker’s alright, I hope you can take care of the floor. I pulled one of my QS8s over stringing a tape measurer from it. Scraped the grill but no other problems. Funny how these “poorly braced” speakers can take a lot of punishment.

I don't even take the pills and didn't come up with it. Googled, it's a radio station.

I see an opening here for a dictionary of acronyms. I'll write it when I retire. These days acronyms are tossed around without explanation.

By the way, my center channel speaker crashed to the floor in the middle of the night. It was supported over my Samsung DLP by one of those metal shelves with adhesive supports that affix to the slanting back panel of the "Sammie".

Of course, in humid weather the adhesive failed, and down went the center. Chipped corner, no other damage other than my being startled out of a deep sleep. I thought the pods had landed.

Cheers,
Alan

I think everyone else should chip a corner on their centres, to show their support for us guys.

LOL Adrian...

I guess I shoulda put that design of mine on the market as I wanted to at one point, huh?

Lol, yeah who knew spelling something backwards would cause us such fits of ignorance???

Just shows how brain-dead I am at the moment this month....

Wow, I didn't figure it out until Micah explicitly explained it.

I have an excuse, though. She's 4 months old.

Oh, now I get it! Duh. I went off on my acronym rant.

Adrian: LOL!

I've had to look up acronyms, ummm, on one or two occasions .

I have decided to drop my speaker down a bit. The projected image was too high and it was really bugging me.

I now have a nice big hole in my wall (speaker is wall mounted by the Axiom bracket) that needs filling. Has to be worth it though because there is nothing worse than not being happy with the final product.

Thanks for your help and sorry to hear about the damaged speaker Adrian
