The settings on my pre pro won't allow for setting different distances for the left or right front speaker or the left or right surround speaker. Both fronts have to be the same distances and both surrounds have to be the same distances. Which to me makes sense and is not a problem.

So here is my question. Why would the front left and right speakers have different volume levels and why would the left and right surround speakers have different volume levels when calibrating with a sound meter. If both front speakers or both surround speakers are equidistance from a certain spot, why wouldn't they have the same levels? My left and right front levels are different and my left and right surround levels are different. Should they be different or are mine just screwed up??
The walls/corners can create louder bass in one of your front speaker than the other thus making the speaker "louder" with pink noise.
My right front speaker has a hallway a couple of inches to the right of it and it automatically gets set a couple of decibles higher than the left speaker.
Cgolf, even if you have your speakers the exact same distance from the listening position, there could be upto 1-2 dB's difference in levels. Your room and distance from walls/ceiling will have a big affect on your outcome. I would say do your best to place them equal from front/side walls, and the same physical distance from you, and enjoy.
Thanks everyone. I just built a new HT and have changed everything from equipment to room, etc. I got to thinking about the levels and placement of my speakers and thought, "hmmm, that's weird. The distances are the same but the levels are different. I think I'll just ask around and get some expert advice."

Works every time....
Audyssey sets up my surrounds with a 4-6 db difference between them.
Because of the layout of my living room both my front and rear left speakers are closer to my main seating than my right speakers.
So naturally I have different distance settings on my receiver.
