Hi,
I have a 9' ceiling, 14' x 25' rectangular room with the main seat at 16' from the front wall, 9' from the rear wall, and 7' from the side walls.
I plan to have two M80's and one VP150.
I wonder:
1) What are the best choice for the side surround and rear surround speakers?
2) How far from the ceiling should I place the side surround and rear surround speakers?
Thanks.
Thaun you have the exact room dimensions as our room with the exception of the ceiling height.

We're using M80s, VP150 and QS8s in a 7.1 setup ... I have our side QS8s mounted on the side walls directly to the sides of the couch (15' from front wall) and 64" off of the floor and the rear surrounds are each mounted on the rear wall 3' in from the side walls and the same distance from the floor. I actually built part of our room around the surround speakers so they end up only being 7' in back of the listening position.

I placed the speakers based on research from this and other sites suggesting speaker placement, here's Alan Loft's article...Essential Guide to Speaker Placement from this list of very helpful articles ... The Learning Center.

Just to give you an idea of how our QS8s are placed here's a shot of the back of our room ...

Good Luck and Welcome!

Wow.
Thank you very much, Rick.
I like your room a lot.
it is one awesome room that I hope I can see some day...
Fantastic man cave. What HK model are you running? My brother has their 650 and loves it.
Thanks for the kind words guys! This was actually a screened room just over 5 years ago, that's why the ceiling is a bit unusual.

DC Rich, that's a 635 and I really like it, the thing gets constant use 7 days a week and has done so since new about 5 years ago ... I like it so much that I'm just about to upgrade it to their new 3600 in a couple of months.

My bad, he's got the AVR 645. Like you, he swears by it and the unit never gets the chance to cool off. I've compared it to my Denon 1906 and the HK beats it with features and stage depth but it terms of amp quality and performance there isn't much difference... imo. I think that's good news for both pieces. I've been an HK rooter for years dating back to the 70's. I bought the Denon based on great reviews and the deliverd price was too hard to beat.
Very nice room!

Ssssshhhhh! It's a feature, Rick. You paid a lot of extra money for it beacause it breaks up standing waves near the ceiling where Bren can bump his head on them.
Rick, it's a wonder you ever leave that room, nice job!
