Earlier today I noticed a steady popping sound (about 30/min) coming from my EP125 while it was idle. I disconnected everything but the power cable to see if there was a signal causing it, but the sound persisted without any signal. When I turned the power off I noticed the back panel was very hot to the touch (too hot to keep my hand on it for 3+ seconds).
Does anyone have thoughts about this? The woofer is fairly new - <3 months.

Call Axiom. That's your best bet. It sounds like a damaged amp.

Call Axiom @ 1-866-244-8796 and talk to one of their representatives to get a replacement amp sent to your for your sub. The amp on the subwoofer has kicked the bucket. Keep us posted on the resolution to your issues.

Thanks for the replies, gents. Yep - I think it is cooked. After another day of messing with it, I find that the back plate builds up significant heat when the sub is idle. If I give it a signal the heat subsides, but the smell of melting electronics emerges.
I'm going to call them tonight. And while I'm at it, I may as well send back the amp for my Audiobytes. The L and R channels are wired backwards, which I have just accepted up until now.
This is high end stuff, right? I've either been very unlucky, or somebody is sleeping in the QC office at Axiom.
Axiom High End? Not really, but it does sound like you are very unlucky to have 2 products with problems.

Yes, talk to them about getting a new amp for your sub and for your Audiobytes. You should have called customer support as soon as you noticed the wiring was backwards so you could get a replacment sent as soon as possible. Good luck with your issues and keep us up to date on the resolution.

Just FYI, Axiom hand builds all of its amplifiers, for what that's worth.
I bought the Audiobytes and EP125 in late January. So they're just over two months.
I did call as soon as I noticed the backward wiring, and they did offer to send me a new one. I told him not to worry about it - I just switched the wires, but I wanted someone to know that there were QC issues. I imagine it's somebody's job there to test the amp and, ostensibly, prevent exactly that sort of mistake from shipping to a customer.
But now with the sub... I don't feel so forgiving. I left a message with Axiom. I'll let everyone know what comes of it!
BTW - despite this, I have been quite satisfied with the sound quality
Let's not talk about being unlucky. If anyone here had an upside down horse shoe hanging over their door, it was me.
Yes if Axiom seems to have a chink in their armor, it's in their amps. Not a whole lot of complaints about bad speakers, but if you sift through this forum you will find a fair share of failed amp complaints. Keep in mind though Axiom ships all over the continent, and then some. So it's understandable that even if a small percentage of those amps go bad, and a small percentage of the owners of those amps come on here and complain about them, it's still going to look like there's a big problem with Axiom's amps.
As far as Axiom being 'high-end'... well, they certainly aren't generic. However when I think about 'high-end' I envision exotic materials being used just for the sake of being able to name those materials in their marketing pamphlets. I envision everything being polished to gleeming shine to blind you when you walk in the room so that there's no mistaking the fact that you've spent a lot of money on the product when a guest is over. And I envision it costing LOT'S of money so that when your guest asks about that shiny, exotic looking piece of equipment sitting in the trophy case you can initially dismiss it as if you'd forgotten you even owned it. Then suddenly recall that you did indeed spend a rather ridiculous sum of money on it, because it's made of ubber exotic materials, and polished to a brilliant shine.
Axiom is not that. What Axiom is, in my own humble opinion, is a company that makes things that work great at a very reasonable price. Except for the odd subwoofer amplifier amp that is. As you and I have had the misfortune of discovering first hand. Chin up, they will take very good care of you.
