Hey there folks, I'm planning on building a home theater soon and am starting with the M22ti's as my mains and am going to add components on in the future. I was just wondering what would be a good A/V receiver to use with the M22's. I'll be listening to about 60% music and 40% movies. My budget is around $300 but would be willing to spend a little more if there's a dramatic improvement. My room is small so 100Watts per channel will be plenty enough. As far as other features go I don't need many inputs or outputs, just a few digi inputs and that's pretty standard. Thanks!

5 x 70 watt, rms, 8 ohms.

DD5.1, DTS, Pro Logic 2, and all that stuff.

Very solid amp, plays louder than most 70wpc. Can handle 4 ohm load. I have the 1602, and it's great with the efficient Axioms.

I believe that in this price range you are better off looking at Panasonic, JVC, Kenwood and similar. They may not have the cachet of the Denon, but you can buy a lot more expandability. You should be able to find one that has Dolby EX and outputs for additional amps for rear channels. Not to knock the Denon, but its ability to grow as you do is very limited. It has no ability to handle 6.1 or 7.1. Now, I realize that this may not be important to you especially as you don't have the money for additional amps and speakers for the rear right now, but you would be surprised what you can pick up for almost nothing at garage sales and used stores. A mid 80s amp or receiver would do just fine powering rear speakers. I've seen them going for $20. All kinds of speakers would work fine in the back. You are trying to create ambience back there not immidiately identifiable sound sources.
As far as sound quality goes, you have to spend a zillion dollars in amplification before you notice quantum leaps.

Tyler, there's a lot of good receivers that you can find around that price and the M22 doesn't have any special requirements. Look for the features you want at the best price you can find. Two very well-equipped receivers that you should consider are the JVC 8030 and the Pioneer 912.

I don't know what part of the world you're in, but in Lake Elsinore, Calif. there's a Kenwood outlet store that features factory repaired stuff at insanely low prices. I'm sure similar outlets are located elsewhere, no?

Thanks for the input so far everyone. What are your thoughts on H/K receivers? If it's worth the difference I'd definitely look into it.
I'm also looking at a Yamaha RX-V430. Anyone tried this with some M22's?

Any receiver from a reputable company will be able to drive the speakers you are considering to very high levels. The difference in sound quality if the tone controls are set to flat, and the DSP modes are off will be next to zero. Buy the features you need. It is more important to get the music playing than it is to split hairs over what equipment to use to play it. Harmon Kardon makes very good receivers. If you decide to go that way you should not be disappointed.

I rather like my H/K 525, but I do not use half or even a quarter of the features on it. It does seem to put out a lot of heat, but I think that's normal for today's receivers. I bought it because of the very nice price/features ratio, and the fact that I got it for about half off at an authorized refurb dealer (onecall.com). You might want to consider the H/K 325 as well.
