Hello out there!

I'm new to the forum here, so forgive me if this subject has been beaten to death already! (I have been enjoying my Axiom's for years though) I am looking to rearrange my room to accomodate the new rear channels in BD movies (DTS-ES/DD-EX), and not sure the best way.

Currently, I have M60's, QS8's, and a VP100 running for 5.1. I have the option of connecting 2 M1Ti's for the back channels, but I think the look of another VP100 would be better suited to my room. I'm under the impression that there are only 6 channels running in 7.1, but that the back channel is split into 2 mono signals, so I'm wondering if there would be any noticeable difference? Anyone tried both ways? Thanks, you guys are great.

1SS, welcome. The back surrounds can indeed have different "stereo" material directed to them, which makes two a better choice than one. There is a little actual 7.1 material on some discs now which have separate discrete rear channels, but a more significant consideration is that processing such as DPLIIx can direct different sounds to the two back speakers after extracting them from 2-channel source material or the surround channels in 5.1 movies.

Using two M1s(if you have lots of space behind you for them to disperse their sound)or possibly even better 2 QSs, would be definitely preferable to a VP100 back there.

Lol, welcome to the forum, stick around a while will ya. Oh, and I'm with John recommending the two QS8's over a center channel. Although I'm sure you would enjoy a VP100 in a 6.1 configuration, I think the 7.1 will be a bit more enveloping experience.

It's true. Although, I should be doing some yardwork seeing as the sun finally started to shine, but how would I research ways to optimize my movies and games?

Looks like I'll be ordering more speaker cable and dusting off the "fishing line".

I tried my VP150, an M22 and a QS8 as a single rear channel here in my house and found it wasn’t worth having just one speaker back there in my room, though some people might get better results especially with a single QS8. As John said even though there’s not a lot of discrete 7.1 out there even the 5.1 expanded by PLIIx sounds better with two speakers. With the single center, sounds from the back sounded like they were coming from the front when sitting in the center of my listening position.

I would try out the M1s and if you don’t think they are doing a good enough job you can always order something more robust to use instead.
