As in does the cone/driver wear or degrade slightly to produce any audibly different tone. I'm just curious, my M60Ti's and company are now 8 years old and used almost daily, but I can't say I notice any difference at all since the day I unpacked them. Just curious.

This is a good question.

I like to think that the M60 are an excellent quality speaker and as long as you take care of them (no amp clipping, free of moisture, etc) they should last for a few decades at least.

I would bet that you would have cabinet issues (seems coming apart) well before you have driver or crossover issues.

There used to be an issue with the foam around the outside of the driver disintegrating, but Axiom's new drivers are now rubber instead of foam. New meaning 1999 through today

My AX2' sound as good today as the day I bought them in 1986.

This falls into my line of thinking with the speaker break-in myth, if breaking-in a speaker makes an audible difference after only a relatively few hours of use, how bad or how much more wear will the speakers sound/incur after 10 times that much use. I would think they would be useless as a speaker. Those rubber surrounds have a very long life.

I doubt you would be able to tell much of a difference without A/B testing.

That's an interesting suggestion....for the "experts" who claim that speaker break-in exists, have them double blind test two pairs of the same speaker....one pair with 50 or 100 hours on them, and the other pair with no "mileage".

About the only thing on a driver that will degrade is the surround. The old foam surrounds did have a limited life, but the newer rubber surrounds are much more durable. I asked Alan this question once, but don't remember the details of the answer.
