This Samsung PN50C7000YF looks like a fine Plasma TV. I've just started researching for something that looks like perhaps a keeper and is bigger than my 37 in and will fit on the wall space that I have. I think I can squeeze this one in. It's almost 48 inch wide. If I get one it will probably be around the 1st of next year, or later.
Anybody have any experience with the Samsung Plasmas?
They have good reviews by most accounts, the biggest problem in the past has been humming from their power supplies, whether or not this is still the case I have no idea.
I believe Cam had an issue with his 58" Plasma and the panel was replaced(?) or I might be thinking of my inlaws which had a similar problem and I know the panel was replaced on theirs. As I mentioned in another thread, if you like the PQ, size and the price, buy it. researching them only makes you frustrated as there are problems with all flatscreens that people can find fault with, just look at AVS forums on flatscreens, on second thought don't it drove me nuts reading all the positive comments only to find almost as many negative ones.
Yeah Jay, you're right, although I HAVE
an issue with my TV. Mine has to do with what looks like static across the entire screen. Long story short- I'll never purchase another Samsung TV because I believe I've been treated unfairly, they aren't standing by their product, and their customer service is horrendous.
The humming you mention was a problem with the following years model.
I've had 2 Samsung LCD TV's so far, and no problems whatsoever. I would suspect to find similar problems when dealing with customer service of just about any of these manufacturers, though. Are you talking about a tv in or out of warranty?
Here's a
quick link to the AVS forum for this series of TV.
Edit: This is a long thread. A little over 100 pages. I'm just a little of the way into it, but am learning a lot. The newer Samsung Plasmas have eliminated the buzzing noise.
electronic still electronic... shit happen.
Sorry to hear that they never solved your problem Cam, that is really terrible C/S.
Cat after a quick look over some the posts on AVS it looks to have a similar good vs bad owner reviews, with some still complaining about buzzing.
You must be referring to this comment from page 5.
"This is the one complain I have with the c8000. I head a buzzing sound from 8+ feet away. I can hear it during normal viewing unless their is some constant noise in the program. Its audible during moments of calm and talking.
This is annoying to me, but I may be overly sensitive to it. My wife can hear it but it doesn't bother her. This the exact same sound as the Panasonic VT20 I listened to at Best Buy the other day, but on that one I could only hear it if I put my head behind the set.
I posted a video of it on another thread. One person commented they could hear it, several others said they couldn't."
Edit: One glaring consensus on the AVS forum is the Panasonic's are much better than the Samsung for the 2010 models. Samsung concentrated too much on 3D and let other areas, like black levels, slide.
Edit: But on the other hand Samsung has outstanding shadow detail and 2d to 3d conversion logic that the Panasonic doesn't have..... Yikes.
Some more from page 7. I hope people don't mind if I do this this way.
"I heard the buzzing on the mkv video. I dont know how anyone could not hear the buzzing in your video. If they didnt hear it they probably didnt turn up their speakers loud enough or were watching the youtube version of your video. You can really hear the buzzing in your video when you turn on the 3d.
I personally would return my set if it buzzed like yours does. And if you cant exchange it for another Samsung that doesnt buzz I would exchange it for a Panny or an LG. However each of those manufactures seem to have their own issues as well.
Panny = Floating Blacks and Black Level Rising
LG = Image Retention, Very Reflective Screen
Samsung = Buzzing
Just my thoughts."
Edit: A little more:
"I was the first one to state I heard the buzzing. Yes you need to watch the mvk file and turn the speakers up. You really hear it when he turns on the 3d , you hear the tone change. Before that though some might think it is just speaker noise."
Quote from page 12.
"i just recieved my c7000 this morning and i can verify that after changing the model number on the service menu to c8000, i got the cinema smooth option, motion judder canceler and cal-day cal-night under the picture menu"
Apparantly you can change the model number from c7000 to c8000 in the service menu and you get some of the options of the C8000 that the c7000 isn't supposed to have.
One more from page 17 before I quit for tonight. I found this one amusing.
"So let me get this right. Samsung issues a firmware update for the C7000 which causes the motion interpolation system to be FORCED ON, and CANNOT be turned off. And the only way to disable it is to "hack" your TV model to a C8000.
If this is true then I don't think Samsung should be making TV's at all!!"
Are you going crazy reading through those, one says it is a great TV, another says wait what about the.... a few more say it's great, one more says this is wrong and on and on it goes and not just for this TV ALL of them are like this.
I finally just went to all the stores looked at the ones I felt were in the right price/size I wanted and compared as best I could the PQ and then bought the one with the best PQ and price I was willing to pay, hence my 58" S1 Panny and I love it
I had quite a positive experience with Samsung CS. We had a 460 series TV that had developed a red spot in the lower part of the unit. You couldn't even see it with normal viewing, just when it was booting up. Actually the wife was the one that noticed it, I never had seen it before it was pointed out.
I called Samsung and said they would send out a repair tech. Well a few weeks went by and the tech finally called to set an appointment. After a couple visits and attempts to get it right Samsung called and offer me a new TV.
They upgraded the TV from the 720P to a new 550 (2010 model) series. I was really surprised.
So; I'm quite happy with the way I was treated by Samsung CS.
And the TV itself; it has an awesome picture.

Actually, I was having fun reading through those. I found it interesting to see what everyone thought about that particular tv series. But, I also see your point, if I read that for every tv out there, I would probably never buy one.
It is fun to see just how picky some people can get for visuals. Then you see that they have some Bose system or something even less for audio, kind of makes you wonder why they bother so much with the visuals.

Rick, do you recall the name of the rep?
. Glad to hear you didn't have to deal with the hogwash I did.
No, I don't recall but I talked to more than one and they all were very nice to me Cam.
They were only mean to Cam because they knew he was an anarchist nutjob.
<evil grin>
Well ya can't blame the avatar, he didn't have it then
You guys are awesome! But seriously, quit poking fun at my avatar or I'll go back to my previous one that people were bitching about
.
Oh no, anything but that! We'll be good.

Can't say I remember what it was.

This quote reminds me of the Wheelers from the movie "Return to OZ".

It was just an animated avatar with two martial artists playing with fire. It consumed a lot of bandwidth for some people. IIRC, Ken was the worst of them, constantly whining TEHEHEHE
.
Nope, I never did. It was Peter.
People mix us up a lot. You know, the guy who's 5'10" and has a long red braid and the guy who's 6'4" with dark hair.
I think it's the goatees.

Ah, yes, Peter. How could I have got mixed up; his whining is very distinctive
. Sorry Ken, my bad. I think Mark was in on it too, or was that something else....? He is always messing around somewhere on this forum, so it's hard to keep track
.
I had nothing to do with it.
Cam, I think you get walkies confused. Bigot!
We all look alike to him.
We all look "retarded" to you (walkie's)
.

There's gotta be some way nastier epithets than "walkies," Cam.
Can I think on it over the weekend and get back to you??
Yeah, buddy LOL! Oh, I can't wait
!
Too funny, Bob!

And on a completely unrelated note, my local av store had a couple of 42" Samsung plasmas on sale at $600. Two years ago when I bought that would have been an incredible steal!
Do they make viagra for legs?
HAHAHA
. My first laugh of the day, Peter
. They have Papaverine (aka cactus juice in the SCI community). It comes in a needle form, and I could try injecting it in my legs.
Great idea, my friend.
