I've considered getting a universal remote for a long time, but I've always put it off because using multiple remotes has never bothered me too much, and so the price of the more advanced remotes always kept it an idle thought. I'm curious about picking up a tablet PC at some point, though, if I can use one of them as a remote. Is anyone here using one for that function yet? The RedEye mini for the iPhone/iPad/iPod touch looks like it could be cool, but it's only doing IR. Ideally, I'd have Bluetooth covered as well for the PS3, but that's an issue with most remotes.

I think I'd rather get on the Android side of things. Has anyone kept track of what the options are there? One reason to go with the iPad would be to use it as a control for the Parrot AR.Drone, but they say, "It was initially designed for the Apple platforms and will be also available on other platforms in the next few months." I suppose waiting is the best thing to do for now, but I thought it was worth discussing. Waiting means more hardware options, more full-featured, fine-tuned apps, and probably cheaper prices.

I want to get the Samsung Galaxy tablet, and if it was capable of being used as a remote, that would be cool; I didn't know tablets could. Although I doubt it would come close to my Harmony 1000.

Android tablets/phones will be able to be used as remotes for Google TV devices. The Logitech Revue already has the Harmony software built in, so it can control everything else you own.

If I had Dish Network I would definitely add the Revue to the mix. But as I sit now with no cable/sat it doesn't make sense.

Wow, the redeye mini for the iphone looks pretty cool! I wonder why they can't use the built in blutooth in the iphone to control the PS3 with their app, and control everything else with the IR adapter. If they can pull this off, my 50 bucks is theirs for the IR dongle.

CV, after reading the app reviews for the redeye app on the appstore I can't say I can recommend the redeye mini. MANY users giving 1 star saying the hardware is good but the app keeps crashing, freezing, won't control some devices, not all buttnos will work, etc.

Maybe an update will fix things...

I'll also work via the iPhone.

I'll have to keep my eye on that.

Charles, here's a thorough introduction of the Revue. Pretty sure I'll be picking one up, it's a slick unit.

That does look cool. A lot of its functions may end up being redundant for me since I have my PC hooked up to my TV and can watch TV on my PC, but it does look cool.

Coupled with Dish Network's DVR it's really cool. You can use the powerful Google search to find things you want to record in the future, or search through the terabyte of storage in the DVR. Also the way it can integrate interactive content from the web for the show you're currently viewing is neat.

Without a compatible DVR (Dish is the only one so far) it becomes less useful, only allowing searching of upcoming programs. Without cable it's pretty useless, though it does do Netflix and Amazon, no Hulu (yet).

Google TV is an Android device, it'll have a market place soon. I imagine some apps will be ported quickly (instant messengers on the TV would be kinda cool), others won't make much sense, and hopefully there'll be a whole new class of app that makes the device a real center of entertainment.

I'm considering picking up Dish and their 1TB DVR. Too bad their international packages don't include Romania.

I'd get it solely for the ability to surf the internet on my big screen.
