Just thought it would be fun to ask you guys about any particular movies/scenes you consider excellent all around bass demos. Obviously War of the Worlds is one of my favorites for low, loud, and relentless bass.

Flight of the Phoenix. The desert storm scene!

Any Star Wars movie series pick virtually any explosion.

Pulse - heart beating very low LFE

Eagles - Farewell Tour Live from Melbourne - Very good bass throughout the DVD.

Iron Man - Exit out of Cave
- Just about any Fight scene

Incredible Hulk - Anytime he is the Hulk

Transformers - Last battle scene has one very exceptional piece of LFE

Forgot to add Kung Fu Panda Skidooosh scene

I think one of the new bass kings is the raid on the dragon mountain in How to Train Your Dragon.
Posted By: Ya_basta Re: Bass demos - 11/27/10 12:54 PM
Cloverfield and Iron Man 2.

I'm feeling compelled to once again post my favorite demonstration of bass capabilities:

(Please just hum to yourself)

Largemouth vs Smallmouth....which has more bass?

Should add Master and Commander(cannon salvos) to Jay's list btw.

Having recently watched the blu-ray version of The Sound of Music, there is some pipe organ music with good bass in the 2nd half of the movie during the wedding scene in the Catholic church.

AVS has a sticky in their sub forum which gives an extensive list of LFE from music to moveies. As for a current favorite I'd have to say Percey Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief was excellent and IMO a great source for reference level viewing.

I highly recommend, Bill.... smile

I agree. I don't have a sub yet but the first scene when Poseidon steps on the ground and the scene in Iron Man when he enters sonic speed to go to Afghanistan are the only 2 scenes that where able to make one of the woofers on the M80s rattle. Since then I got a replacement.
Even though I'll get a subwoofer in the future, I am still amazed on how much bass the M80s are able to output. I just finished watching Avatar at reference level and damn, was ever my floor shaking smile

Try Close Encounters of the Third Kind blu ray. When the mother ship comes in.
Posted By: jakewash Re: Bass demos - 11/27/10 11:29 PM
If memory serves that scene should be great. I will have to try it.
Posted By: CV Re: Bass demos - 11/28/10 12:19 AM
I think Dean was unimpressed with the bass in it? I actually bought the Blu-ray when it got cheap, but I still haven't watched it. In fact, I've NEVER watched the movie. How sad am I?
Posted By: billy p Re: Bass demos - 11/28/10 12:53 AM
Yeah, when he emerges from the water ceratinly comes to mind and another decent sequence occurs when Percey enters Medusa lair, but that battle atop the roof with Percy and Luke was epic. I have Avater, but the LFE in this movie is better..IMO.
Posted By: bdpf Re: Bass demos - 12/01/10 02:34 PM
The last airbender. Although it's more of a kid's movie, it's worth watching for the special effects and soundtrack alone. Lots of LFE there.
Posted By: cb919 Re: Bass demos - 12/02/10 02:36 PM
Watched Pixar's 'Up' with my kids on the weekend. We had it quite loud. I went upstairs during the movie to get them some snacks and all of the sudden my kitchen floor is shaking and feels like the house is exploding. I went running back downstairs and ask my son what scene just played.

Long story short - the scene where they escape the bad guy and the rock pillars start falling over like dominoes. The kids loved the bass too so we replayed that scene 3 times before finishing watching the movie! Now that's a proud parenting moment! cool

I need to rent some kids so I can justify a new sub to my wife...
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Bass demos - 12/02/10 02:42 PM
You can have my 3 year old. I'll even ship him for free.

Note: Never trust Mark.
Posted By: cb919 Re: Bass demos - 12/02/10 02:56 PM
And your wife is ok with that Mark!?! I think you'll need to justify more than a sub!
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: Bass demos - 12/02/10 02:59 PM
Actually, if my wife were OK with that, I wouldn't give a crap about getting a new sub! smile

I think you can count on your post coming up on the US Attorneys office's Carnivore sweep and they may drop you a line, especially about the free shipping.
Posted By: Ken.C Re: Bass demos - 12/03/10 01:27 AM
I'm terrified.
Posted By: MarkSJohnson Re: Bass demos - 12/03/10 01:29 AM
Never shoulda offered to cover the shipping, Ken. Never shoulda done it.

That's always how they get ya.
Posted By: 2x6spds Re: Bass demos - 12/03/10 06:15 AM
That's what I'm saying. It's the shipping'll get you every time.

2nd that! I was very impressed with this movie. An audio delight throughout.

Inception sounds like it's going to be another demo worthy BD.
Posted By: jakewash Re: Bass demos - 12/07/10 09:51 PM
Was watching some Iron Man on Sunday with my son and the whole house was shaking. smile I don't think it to be very low LFE but it is poweful.
