Denon has discontinued the 7000 remote how did it compare to the Logitec

Will the Logitec 8000 or 9000 be able to control a Denon AV receiver functions such as ( different zone volume Ect...)

Any other choices besides the Logiec

I've been using the Logitec Harmony 1100 with a Pioneer Elite.

It can do 3 things well.
1) Set an activity on and shut it off. You can program any button pushes with pauses for multiple pieces of equipment to set it to an activity, such as watch tv with receiver, watch tv with tv speakers, listen to fm, listen to a CD, watch movie in 5.1, watch concert in stereo only, etc.
2) Perform any activity that consists of a single button push.
3) Provide all menu activity on multiple pages of the screen display.

Which Denon do you have? I noticed that the Apple app store has the new Denon app but it only works on xx11 series. I have to try to see if it even works w/ my 3310. I did find some home grown apps that are supposed to work w/ the xx10 series. Need to try those. Granted, this assumes you have some type of Apple iphone/iPad/Touch and it's not necessarily a full, all-in-one.

If you want a big remote, you could even go w/ the iPad and try something like an L5.

I'm also a Harmony fan, in fact, I just reprogrammed my 659 to control a new Roku XDS.

Unlike some folks here, I'm staunchly in the Universal Remote (URC) camp. So long as you don't plan on having complicated macro's you probably cannot go wrong with either.

Just make sure Logitech supports your AVR before buying it.

The URC6131 (IIRC) is one of the best deals under $15. Those have taken a beating at my house and still work. Agreed, no macros though.

If you don't mind spending some time up front setting it up, the Harmony One does it all. Very good WAF as well.

I have URC R50 and find it to be a very good universal remote, especially for the price (about $100). My favorite feature is that it can be used to control my lighting. The URC comes preprogrammed with Lutron codes which works perfectly with a Lutron IR dimmer.

+1 here. I've had my MX-500 since 2003 and it's been fantastic.

It's the same remote that ships with really expensive gear from Sunfire and other manufacturers who do private label remotes through URC.

When (if?) the time comes that I need a new universal remote, it'll be URC for me.

IR/RF would be nice for next time. But where I'm at now doesn't need RF anyway in a smallish room.

I'm with Kruncher. Ray made me buy an MX-700 years ago, and I honestly cannot imagine employing a different system.

I haven't updated any programming since moving to Vista computers 2-3 years ago, though. If I had to reprogram something, I wouldn't even know where to start anymore.

And for that reason, if I need a replacement for this one, I would likely buy a new Harmony where the software resides on the web.

If I were buying NEW now, though, I don't know that it would affect my decision.

RF20 with IR repeater. All for around a $100. Macros are easy and the IR allows control from any room. Plus you can get a second remote and clone it for $50. Been using them for 3 years and no complaints.

I second this! I have had the Logitech Harmony One now for 2 1/2 years. I have no desire to change or upgrade. It has been great. It does take a while for initial setup but it is also very customizable and once you get used to the user programming interface, changes are easy.

Their support has been good as well. Early units like mine had a problem with the original rechargeable battery that came with it where it would swell up and stop retaining a charge. Even after 2 1/2 years they sent me a new (improved) replacement battery for free.

I have had great success with Harmony remotes and have had 3 different models over the past several years. I have no reservations recommending them. They get setup for the basic functionality very quickly, but as others have said you do have to invest some time in programming them to get them to behave exactly the way you want. There should be no issues with the Denon codes.

For those of you with URC's, is there any big difference or advantage of URC's over Harmony?

The URC's allow you to design your own macros using an intuitive PC interface and then assign them to basically any button. It's good for control freaks and concrete-sequentialists.

Logitech has a page on their site where you can key in your make and model and they will tell you if it is supported...

My Denon AVR-1910 is covered.

I've had the MX500 for quite some time and am also very happy with it. Gotta love the macros.

Our Harmony 880 just died a few weeks ago. Dropped dead right in my hand.

Just bought a new Harmony ONE and am very happy with it. The couple of complaints I had with the 880 have been resolved with the ONE. I also bought the logitech PS3 adapter and it works like a charm. Woohoo...one remote to rule them all! (yeah, I'm a super-dork)

Anyone try the iRule Apps for the iPhone/Touch/iPad?

Ralph of AVS Forum using it and seem like a good apps, the only thing is that, all devices had to be on the same network, heard some IR dongle can be attached to the iPad.

Am really interested and had downloaded their trial version but got no time to test it before the trial period expired.

I came from the URC RF20 with RF and had been satisfy with it but I want more control and easier program so I go for the Harmony, but the iRule are catching my eyes now....am thinking of get a used iPod Touch to try it out....

My 880 is still going strong. Wife says it is the best part of my system.

Mike (michael_d) talked me into buying an MX980 a while back and I have yet to have the thing programmed, I started to program it but the dang thing kicked my non-PC compatible azz in the ground and I have haven't messed with it since. I did schedule a local programmer to come out and do the programming for me but the chucklehead never showed.

It *looks* promising though.

Have you seen the size of the 880?
