I should have known better than to start nosing around the site as I have contracted that pesky upgrade itch

I currently have the VP150 and I have always found it to be somewhat lacking. I have not been unhappy with it... I have just always felt like it did not have the oomph I have been looking for. After reading all of the positive remarks about the VP180 it seems like a no brainer.

My main question is would it be worthwhile to upgrade the M22ti to M22 V3? The cosmetic changes are nice features, but is the change in sound quality enough to justify the upgrade? I realize that perception of sound quality changes from person to person. I looked through some of the forums on here and did not come across any M22 version comparisons. (maybe I did not look hard enough) Has anyone compared the different versions?

IMHO, (no budget was mentioned) with you having an SVS PB13 sub, there is no way I would go with M22 V3. With that sub, it would be M60's or M80's.

Not saying the M22's are lacking, but the rest of your speakers are very, very nice. If you are looking at the maximum sound difference with an upgrade, then go full towers for your mains.

Although I have never heard the M22 V3's, I can't imagine that you would get that "WOW, so glad I upgraded" feeling...

I would do it. M22s are not a "reach" financially like the M60s or M80s would be (for me). You could give the old ones to someone in your family or sell them to offset the cost of the new speakers. The grills would be worth it to me.

From your description of the VP150 I think the M180 makes sense. Not so sure about the M22 though.

Steve, there hasn't been any detailed discussion on the point, but Alan has commented here that the tweeter in the v3s shows "smoother, wider dispersion" in the M22v3 and the other v3s. My view is that this is already excellent in my almost nine year old M22s, and although I'm mildly curious, I'm not inclined to order the v3s.

Your M22s and sub provide an excellent full-range performance, which doesn't appear to be in need of an "upgrade". If you do want to add the M22v3s, one suggestion could be to use one or both of the M22tis as a vertical center.

I compared my M22Ti's to M22 v2's and the difference was really only noticeable when I A/B'd them. I couldn't really tell much difference having heard the v2's previously in a friend's house. I was curious and we decided to try them side by side. I would expect the difference to the v3 would be similar, only really noticeable with an A/B comparison.

Dduval... Part of me has always wanted the M80s, but I use my system for 90% movies and gaming so I can not justify spending the extra cash on mains that size. Although I have been really close to picking up used sets on multiple occasions.

I think I will just go with the VP180. From the rest of the posts it does not sound like it would make sense to upgrade the M22s. I have always been happy with them.... just curious as to the difference in sound between the ti and v3.

Based on my experience with M50v1s, M80v2s, and onwall M22v2.9 (no mag grills or silver caps, but with all other upgrades), I have to say that the tweeter improvements have been marked. If you've got the itch, I'd say give it a shot. The M22's highs were incredible and the imaging was great.

Every now and then I also get an upgrade itch as well. I have the same speakers across the front as you do as well. I have always felt from the beginning that the vp150 was lacking compared to the rest of the line, so if you want to upgrade something I'm betting that the vp150 to the vp180 would be quite noticeable. The towers may not be as noticeable unless you have a large room.

For, me I'm waiting until the point when I have a larger room. My room is only 12' by 16' with an 8' ceiling. So if (when) I move into a larger house and hopefully have a larger theater room then I can upgrade the m22's to m80's and the m22's will become width speakers. I'd also want to upgrade the vp150 to a vp180 at that point. I can't do it now since my TV and equipment stand isn't large enough to support that large speaker. But, if it were I would definitely do it soon.

I think you made a wise choice upgrading your center, be sure to post your impressions once you get the VP180!!

That is my upgrade path, also. I've replaced my Pioneer vsx-1020 with an Onkyo 3008, which can handle width speakers, and next week when my m80s arrive, I'll demote my m22s to width speakers. A couple of weeks ago, I replaced my TV stand with one which, I hope, can hold a VP180, that is a Bell'O 50 in. stand, so I expect soon to replace my VP150 with a VP180.
