Thinking about going with M22 on walls, vp150 on wall, qs8s, and ep350 paired with a Marantz 4003. Any thoughts? I can't do bookshelf m22s or floor standing but I also will only have about 6th between L and R on walls. Not an ideal room for HT but it's the only living room I've got!

Caimen, welcome. Your selection of speakers seems fine, but If you possibly can place a vertical M22(or even M2)center, that should be considered.

You haven't described your room, but if you meant to say that the separation between the L and R M22s would only be about 6', this would be satisfactory if you weren't sitting more than about 10' away. A common recommendation is that the listener be about as far away as the front speakers are separated.

How large is the room? I tested some onwall m22's with my 350 and things sounded very good. The onwall 22's don't do as well in the lower frequencies as the regular 22's, but that won't matter as the 350 will pick up where they leave off.

My M22's are about 6-7 ft apart and sound great, I'm using a VP100 for the center upstairs and 350.

The room is about 20x15x16 and the fronts and center will be mounted on a fireplace that extends out into the room. I'd like to do bookshelf m22s but the fireplace sticks out far enough that it blocks the formation of a complete soundstage. Towers won't work because there are built in bookcases and doorways on each side of fireplace. Yes I meant 6 ft between the L and R mounted on each side of plasma. My seating is more like 14ft away. Like I said nothing seems ideal.

Would it be possible to place the L and R speakers in the bookcases, separated maybe 10-12'?. Why would the fireplace block the sound if the speakers were at least 3' wider than it?

You would think that would work but. I've tried it and unless you're in the center viewing spot the sound is just off. It's a three foot set back from the front of the fireplace where the tv and center will be mounted to the bookcases. I appreciate the thoughts though.

Do you think 80w per channel will be under powered?

Depends on how loud you will be listening. The Axiom speakers are very efficient if you look at the specs, and don't require many watts to play very loud in most rooms. 80w should give you enough to play at moderate to loud levels, and enough extra for dynamic peaks in music/movies.

What receiver are you considering?

I have a Marantz SR4003.

We don't listen to music at high levels and this mostly for HT anyway.

Sounds like it shouldn't be a problem and I'll just live with the narrowness of the L and R mains until we build a new home in a couple years and I can plan accordingly.

20x15x16 is 4800 cft. That's a pretty big space to fill up IMO. If there would be any way you could go with towers, I would go that route, plus they would be already there for your next house.
While 80W is generally fine, your room is pretty big in volume and 14ft from the speakers is a pretty good distance so what might be considered moderate to loud volume might require quite a bit more power than in a smaller room and the listening position closer to the speakers. The best thing is for you to try it first and then decide if it is enough.

I have both a M2 and a VP150 for a center channel. If I had to choose between the 2, I'd choose the VP150, because IMO it sounds better with male vocals.

I would love to see pictures... smile

Your speaker choice is fine with your Marantz unit, there will be no issues driving the system to moderate levels in your area. The EP350 will deliver the coverage to the cubic volume of your room with deep bass information. Staying within the limitations of the amplifier section of the HT receiver, you will enjoy the system presentation.

Wow you guys are the most responsive group of posters on a forum I've ever seen! This is great. I'll try and post a picture tonight. The room is a giant open space and towers would be ideal but the wife factor limits me to bookshelf or on wall.

This is our only living room right now and she's looking for a mostly hidden home theatre system. I'll probably just have to go with the on walls for LCR, QS8s, and a nice sub and wait for a dedicated room in a couple years.

I could always add towers then and move the M22 to another position for a 7.1! smile

That's because we don't have a life.

Probably also why I bought Legend of the Guardians: The owls of Ga'Hoole blu-ray today.

Yesterday I watched Kung Fu Panda. It had a bird in it too... Hmmmm. Maybe you've got something there. Harry Potter, owls....

Caimen, I sent you a private message too with some of the thought process I went through and such. Let me know if you saw it.
