Shopping around a little and was wondering if any of you guys have an opinion on the Denon AVR1912.

Brady, fairly long time no-see; welcome back! The 1912 is a typically excellent modern HT receiver, and it depends largely on what specific features you want. If you're looking in the $500 area I'd suggest that you consider a factory refurbished unit, especially one of the Denons available from eCost or Dakmart or an Onkyo from Accessories4less or Shop Onkyo. These should be at least as reliable as brand new units and money can be saved or a model a step or two up can be had for about the same money. For example, I just took a quick look and see that Dakmart has the 1912 for about $390.

Tell us a bit more about what you're looking for and I'll make a more specific suggestion.

I haven't really done the research or kept current on that part of the Denon line, but I'm really impressed by my Onkyo and also the newer Onkyo models.

I think the refurb $579 TX-NR709 is an unbelievable amount of technology. I mean, I've got a perfectly nice, working TX-SR805, and I'm thinking about it because of all the goodies and switching.

Brady, it's really cool to see you post again. Hope you are well.

Brady drops by and all he posts is a question about a receiver?

Well, Harrumph.

Harrumph, I say! smile

Hope all is well!

I bought a Denon 2112CI a few months ago and it's made my Axioms sound better than ever. This model Denon has the Audyssey MultiEQ XT which will optimize your speakers to your room better than the 1912 which has the lesser Audyssey MultiEQ.

I got the 2112CI for $439 (list $649) shipped from ElectronicsExpo. If you're interested, I read that if you call them they may still be honoring that price. And they're an authorized online dealer; in case something goes wrong Denon will honor the warranty.

Brady, good suggestions from both Tom and Eno, depending on how much you want to spend. If you go with Denon, I'd also suggest stepping up at least one level to the 2112 Eno has, mainly for the same reason that he mentioned, i.e., the superior Audyssey XT version. Possibly the best buy would be the factory refurb from Dakmart here .

If it fits your budget, the Onkyo 709 which Tom linked is excellent and another step up. Whichever way you go, I'd again recommend getting a factory refurb for a better unit at a given price level. My personal experience and reports from others leaves me feeling, if anything, even a bit more confident with that rather than a brand-new unit.

I knew I'd get a good answer here.
Thanks John, Tom and Eno.
Life has been crazy for the last few years. Not much time to spend on audio forums.Just moved in with my future wife and was itching to get something new for the HT, to be more specific, something with more than 2 HDMI inputs.
I have my old denon 2803 that's currently rocking M3s in my office, then I had purchased a yamaha rx-v661 for the HT that I'm really not to fond of. Mostly because of the lack of HDMI inputs (2) and the on screen menu drives me nuts (which isnt that far).
Anyhoo just started looking around and was considering one of the denons or onkyos.
I live in Colorado Springs now and get to do photography strictly for fun. I now test hearing and prescribe hearing aids.
You guys know anyone that listens to music too loud?
Anyhoo...thanks for the input and keep it coming.
I'll be around
BTW........... HI MARK!!!!

Looks Great! Casks and nitrogen. That is a pretty special beer list. I'm there.

We've had good times at Phantom Canyon Brewery. Also, become a regular an Panino's if you're not already. King's Chef diner has some solid food, too. I'll look forward to it.

Oh, and DO get the Audyssey MultiEQ XT - it's much more powerful (accurate?) than the non-XT version. And, you don't HAVE to use it, but it might make a meaningful difference in your room.
