I have finally got a hand on a Marantz SR6505. I use to have the sr5003 and liked the sound.
I have a small room in the basement 11x12x8 and looking for a setup 50/50 music/movies.
I do not have a big budget for now but anyway i do not need the top of the line.
So far, i have a 3.2 setup in mind and i would like to hear you guys about it. M22, VP100 and 2 EP125.

I know the M22 will give me the musicality and the details i need for music. The VP100 will simply fill the dialogue for movies. But what about the 2 small EP125 to hold the bass ? Should i go with a single EP350 instead ? Does it could be oversized ?
I like the idea of 2 small subwoofer as far as the EP125 does a fine job (not many review over the net) It still a 370$ subwoofer, can't be a "fantastic" sub.

There is some good price right now at Axiom Deal...

I would use an EP350, personally. But I really like my EP350. I've never heard a 125.

EP350 is such a big boxe... frown

I agree the ep350 puts out some very good lowww frequencies, not sure the 125 can competed, or even 2.

I understand the desire for two subs. But the above advice seems solid. A single 350 will probably satisfy you more then a dual 125s. It is a bigger box of course, but just one instead of two.

one 350 will go lower in freq. than two 125s

After trying EP350 and EP175, I would Definately go with a single EP350.

Philippe, as to a sub, as others have pointed out, the EP350 would provide a considerably better bass extension, and surely you'd be able to find a spot for it in your room, which isn't really all that small.

My main suggestion would be to get away from the 3.1 or 3.2 idea. Both for 2-channel music sources and multi-channel movies surround speakers are an essential element to create a Home Theater. After the M22s, the next priority should be the surrounds, preferably QS4s. The center speaker duties can be handled temporarily by the M22s if your budget doesn't allow for getting a full setup immediately. Also, consider using a vertical M2 for a center, which matches very well with the M22s.

I had more in mind to create my front stage first, and then finnish with the surround. I know the center wouldn't be an issue for a while but i'd like to get a nice display in front first (2.1 or 2.2) I have use and try to configure a sub in a few different room and always felt (at higher volume) the presense of the sub. Maybe i did something wrong but i dont think so ...
So look like i have to forget the 2 ep 125 option smile

The volume of the sub should be calibrated at a level where it blends with the mains and its presence can't be "felt" as a separate source. The impression should be that the sub isn't working but that the speakers are putting out more bass.

Perhaps your subs didn't play low enough. Subs should only provide 80hz to 20hz, or even 40hz to 20nz, depending on how low your mains will play. Anything from 80hz and lower is non-directional. For M22's 80hz to 20hz works well. For M80's, you could use the 40hz to 20hz settings.

+1 on everything that has been said on 1 EP350 vs 2 EP125.

What about 2x EP350 wink

I second this and the other comments as well about going with an EP350. If you feel the enclosure takes up too much room, then I would consider M80s and scrap the sub altogether. My next setup may have full range speakers without a sub.

I have already try the M80 in the room and the bass was totally overkill.

if the bass was overkill, then maybe the M80s were too near the walls; or you're just using this to mean "more than expected"!

I like my M60s. grin Nice full sound.

I know, we aren't helping much, just making the decisions more complex. grin grin
