Woohoo! A second pair of QS8s and now the VP180 to replace my VP150. I love it!
Still need to figure out what to do with the VP150...
Your VP150 will make a fine start for the NEXT Axiom system.
Congrats on the VP180 - I'm VERY eager to hear your assessment.
Yea, that is what people keep saying... Of course it means buying more.... My wife likes the HTIB stuff we have in our living room, but maybe a small 5.1 system in the new family room in the basement someday will have some M22s and QS4s, but it seems like a waste with the home theater right next door.
congrats on the VP180, i got one and love it. i also just added 2 more QS8v3's to create my 7 channel system.
that VP180 is a whooper aint it?!? but well worth the money, it puts out some serious sound!
I haven't gotten my shipping email yet, but that is OK. My theater isn't ready for it yet anyway. It will be pretty impressive since it will be bigger than my M60 fronts, but I have heard that it is VERY impressive.
Hi,
The Axiom VP180 complements very well the Axiom M60. I auditioned an identical set-up at a friend's home theatre . . . very impressive ! He is found of it and all his guests are blwon away.
When I get my theater done, I will do a side by side comparison of the VP150 and VP180. I know that the VP180 will be great, but it will still be interesting to see what happens when going from the VP150 I am used to, putting it into an acoustically treated room (should hear an improvement) and then putting the big boy (I mean the VP180) into the same treated room and hear how much better it is.
Your review will be flawed as you already think the VP180 is better than the 150
Believe me, once you get used to hearing a full range speaker like the VP180, especially in the center channel position, you will NEVER go back to a smaller speaker again.
LOL. Smaller speaker...
The VP150 was the biggest that Axiom offered up until a few months ago.
No, seriously though, I agree, but I will try not to taint my review.
Although, I am also wondering now if I should wire my VP150 in with my VP180 for even more sound of it that will just be bad... I will have an AT screen, so the speakers will be behind it.
Nick, I think RickF or somebody else smart tried that and ultimately decided that it was counterproductive.
Arg. Before the VP180 came out, some people were using two VP150s for centers and said that it was an improvement, so in my search to find something to do with my VP150, I thought that maybe it would help... Maybe not.
Oh, I got my "it shipped" email. Should be here Thursday.
Mine is scheduled to arrive on wednesday. woohoo!
Sweet! Of course, I've got no place to hook it up yet. My other speakers are amassed in one spot with the latest QS8s still in their (opened) boxes. The VP180 will be the same.
Mine just got bumped up to a Wednesday delivery! Woohoo! My wife is going to flip when she sees the size of this thing. It is going to be AWESOME!

I just felt like quoting that out of context.
That's great, Nick. I look forward to the completion of your new theater, and especially to your review of the VP180.
Me, too. Me, too. I still want a VP180 of my own, but I think I may wait until I can upgrade my M80s at the same time so I can be ready for that mystery device.
Guess what is waiting for me at home? Yea, I'm outta here.... I worked an extra 4 hours yesterday, I have permission to leave an hour early.

What a deal

Congrats on the new digs Nick, nice job!
As usual Tom is remembering very well about the speaker comparison. I did do a side by side, or rather an above and below comparison between the VP180 and the VP150 thinking I might have used a VP180/VP150 combination but the full range VP180 overwhelmed the VP150 to the point that I knew right away the VP150 wasn't going to work ... and the VP150 is really a very good speaker. Whenever I shared my thoughts regarding the VP180 I stated something about the fine folks at Axiom hitting a home run with this jewel and I still believe that after having owned our VP180 since they first came out.
It has been an excellent addition to our system, I really think you'll love it.
What Tom said about me being smart, not true.
Hey, Rick, I've been passing off nice+helpful=smart for years.
Some yummy pictures...
The big box next to my other speakers. New V3 QS8s in the boxes on the left, my SVS sub, the M60 fronts with the VP150 on top, and my older QS8s on the floor.
Instructions for those that need to know how to get this beast out of the box.
I used to think that the VP150 was a big center.
VP180 vs VP150 again.
VP180 next to the M60s. Yes, it is noticeably larger.
M60s and the VP180 from a top down (side of the VP) view.
M60 and VP180 - naked!
I can't wait to get them hooked up!
Whatcha think about that magnetic grill cover Nick? Neat stuff, huh!
I can't wait for you Nick! I just got done putting down the new flooring in the V3 Plex, hope to have pictures asap.
Yummy, indeed.
The sucker is huge.
Thanks, Nick!
I wonder if my Sony HTIB in the living room could drive the new speakers, at least enough to make sure that they work 100% after shipping? I bet that the QS8s would be fine, but with a 4 ohm center, I am doubting it. It is a Sony BDV-E280
Got my vp180 today too. no sexy pictures here. I'm just going to leave mine in the box until I move. Pictures will be provided after the move of course. Should have black dust caps to match my m80's.
I wonder if you can get the black dust caps and how they would be applied...
I asked for drivers with black dust caps when I ordered mine and they added them in for me prior to shipping. I keep wanting to open the box to check out this bad boy...
Nick, how was the B stock finish?
It's just a matter of calling them to make a special order.
Ah... I got mine from the auction, so I never looked at special order options. Its all good. Mine is going behind an AT screen anyway. A shame to hide it, but I think that I will like it a lot when done.
I'm running speaker wires for the new theater tonight... Sounds simple until factoring in that I need to plan out all of my seating so that I can get the best side surround placement. We are actually thinking of 3 rows of seats (the back row being like a counter top with bar stools setup), but I am not sure that will work without pushing the front row too close. SO much to figure out.
the back row being like a counter top with bar stools setup
I like this idea A LOT.
We tend to eat a lot of dinners in the home theater, and it is a pain setting up TV trays and crap. This gives a solid surface to eat at, and then we can slide into a comfy seat for the rest of the show, or have seating for 12 if need be, albeit that barstools will get uncomfortable after a while.
the back row being like a counter top with bar stools setup
I ran that idea past my wife when we moved into our house last year and it was decidedly shot down.
What were the main reasons why? This was her idea. I am the one that needs to be fully sold on it yet.
She didn't like the idea of the main seating being that far forward into the room and the furniture wouldn't have been centered on the rear wall to allow access to those bar stools, but our room is smaller than yours, only a little over 14' in that particular direction.
A little progress tonight. I only had 90 minutes of time to work in the basement, so I wired up another smoke detector for the bedroom, and then started running speaker wire. I got through about 200 feet of wire before I had to stop for the night (guy's gaming night)...
What's with all the colored tape on the ends? You are not supposed to be keeping track of them
I have a drywall company lined up to do my basement. I hope they are able to start next week. I would have done it myself but I have a tight timeline and the month and a half it would have taken me will be cut to 10 work days.
Color coded AND labeled with a Sharpie marker...I just got the fronts and rears (yes rears) ran. I need to do a bit of math to figure out where the seats are going to end up so I know where the side surrounds should go.
I just realized I haven't run the coax for possible sub runs, better get that done this weekend, the drywall goes up Wednesday.
Better get on it. I'm going to have to wall fish some coax in the living room of our house after we get moved in.
And I just pre-ordered a JVC RS45 from AVS for an unbelievable price. I was torn between that and the Panny 7000, but with valid pros and cons each way, they got me on price. Now I have something to help go with the great Axiom sound.
Congratulations! Way to make me jealous!
