I have had Axioms for almost 10 years now. My current setup is anchored by 2-M80s and a VP-180 but I am thinking of making a change. It just seems like my current room setup needs something a little more..

I really like the BP series by Def Tech but heard the GoldenEar Triton Twos and SuperSat 50C yesterday. They really impressed me so I thought I would reach out on here and see if anybody has compared GoldenEar with Axiom.

My receiver is an Anthem MRX500 paired with an Emotiva XPA-3..

One thing that is VERY important is when you are thinking about other speakers the real ONLY way you can make a proper comparison is side by side with your existing set-up in YOUR home. I have heard speakers in retailers in which I had a good relationship with that store whereby they would allow me to take the speakers home to try out in my environment before I made a buying decision and especially with those that I THOUGHT sounded better than what I had. In almost every instance when I listened and made a comparison, I took the loaners back.

It is amazing but generally your ears can play tricks on you especially in a retailer that is set-up for such instances and generally all it did was verify that it was really unnecessary to spend all that extra money. If the store where you heard those speakers doesn't allow you to try them out before you buy then I would say "thanks but no thanks".

Regardless of the money, believe me, the M80s and VP180 are "excellent" speakers.

Hi,
Are your M80 the original Ti version or the latest v3 version?

The M80's are the version 2 model.

I think I am going to check the settings on my receiver and look into changing the settings originally setup by ARC. If I can't play around with the settings and hear a difference, then I might look at a different subwoofer.

Having a in-home demo of the GoldenEar speakers are the only way I would consider making the change, but would rather stick with Axiom if possible....

Any suggestions on where the crossovers are preferred to be set on the M80/VP180 combo?

Thanks.

I like mine at 40 or 60Hz.

Is that the same for all three speakers?

HTGEEK, have a look at what i have to say about the M80's in the thread just above this one: AV Room.

yes, but this is a matter of preference. Try different settings and see what you like most.

I just took a quick look at my settings and I was quite shocked to find out the following..

Let me first say that I have an Anthem MRX500 working with an Emotiva XPA to help drive the front three. ARC was ran back when I first got the receiver by the person who has done all my calibrations in the past 9 years..

Here is what everything is set at:

Front Speakers: Large
Center Speaker: Large
Surround: small 120hz

This took me by surprise since I have never had my system setup this way...as I have always had a subwoofer.

Then I noticed that the distance settings appear to be what the factory sets them at and not the actual distances from listening area. I pulled out some settings I had back with my old Denon 4810 after Audyssey was ran and they are much different in all ways. This includes the DB levels of the speakers. My subwoofer is set at -9, whereas with the Denon, I had it set at -1.0. All the other settings are off as well..

What I don't know is if the ARC sets things this way or if they didn't get set at all.

Looks like the lowest I can go is 60hz.

Any suggestions?

Why don't you rerun the calibration yourself?

I have to find out if I can run it on my computer since it was originally ran on another computer...not sure if that causes a problem or not..
