Well not quite that many...but

The "as of yet not finished HT room" is 20'x25', long enough to go with back speakers. However I have to sadly report that unlike all of you, my mad money fund is getting drastically depleted.

I have a plastic car with a canvas top that would like to get long tube headers, a noisy exhaust, cold air intake and a tune. My significant other wants to go to Italy. It has also been pointed out to me that a HT room should have HT furniture, not discards from all the other floors. A radical thought but it has a ring of truth to it.

So that leaves me wondering IF a single VP150 would help to fill in the back of the room.

I seem to think that with a single speaker placed behind your head the sound appears to come from the front of the room. Would this still apply to a VP150, anyone ever tried it?

I know the answer is a pair of QS8s or QS4s but unless I have won the Axiom Free Back Speaker Draw it won't be happening in the near future.

So the question is can a single VP150 be used as a back speaker with some success?

I'd certainly give 6.1 a go. Honestly, I didn't think going from 5.1 to 7.1 was that big a thrill (my room, my couch, etc.).

That being said, I'd wire for either 6.1 or 7.1 and plan to get an extra pair of QS8's when you get back from Italy.

And I'd definitely go to Italy before tweaking the car or buying new furniture. Not that you asked.

Wayne, it's really nice to see your posts and hear about your new adventures.

I'd at least try the VP150 at the back; it should help with all that space.

I say more has gots to be better than less. No?

For speakers, food, and ... other stuff ... yes.

For taxes, disease, and famine, no.

I voted for the plastic car, sorry. I toyed with using my VP150 at a rear 6.1 channel, but was told that it didn't work out so well for others, so I bought a second pair of QS8s. So I don't want to hear anything about a VP150 working well for anyone!!!!
Hey, maybe you could buy my VP150 off of me and have TWO!!!! :-)

I'll willingly trade my VP150 (real wood) for a single QS8, I think I'm pretty much a 5.1 guy but then my Lord of The Rings addiction takes over.....

I tried my VP150 as a rear surround speaker when I got my VP180. Given a choice I prefer the QS8 I have in that spot now. The 150 is too directional for my tastes whereas the QS8 fills the space. I hope that makes sense.

Wayne, yes with "some success", although not ideal(the back-to-front reversal effect can occur with a single centered back speaker). Two suggestions to try which I experimented with a bit in the past(not with a VP150)would be to set the VP150 vertically to get a little more horizontal spread or to leave it a few feet from the back wall and(still vertical)turned around to fire against the wall.

John, your last suggestion sounds very interesting. The one drawback would be it's appearance, and I've already made the commitment that the HT room will be more normal than eccentric.

A promise that I may yet regret. wink

Maybe just use the VP150 as a new alarm clock speaker? I think that would be pretty cool.

Connected to a modest receiver set to 0 I imagine it would be quite effective.

Hey Wayne, I'd put your VP150 on Kijiji, as you should get $150 to $200 for it. I single QS8 is only $305 tax-in.........

This seems to be the same thing as ebayclassifieds.com, which I haven't heard of until today.
