Last weekend i went to one of the local Integra dealers. While i was there, the sales person told me that within the next year the cable providers will be pushing out an update that will limit the maximum output on cable box's analog video outputs to 480p.

Has anyone else heard of this, is it true?

If it is, i think i will be upgrading my processor sooner than i had anticipated... before the used market for my processor drops off of the cliff..

I guess he seems to know something that none of the CE press knows and more than likely would have announced long before now. Quite frankly, the LAST person I would believe about any "alleged" changes like this would be a sales rep from a retail store.

Casey, i agree.. which is the reason i am asking the members of the forum. I did not buy or order a new processor..However, should this be true i would like to get a new processor while i can still sell my current one.

Sounds sort of like my HD-DVD player when I would put in a regular DVD with my previous setup. I was using component cables for it and HDMI for my blu-ray player (didn't have an HDMI capable receiver at the time, and only one HDMI connection). Anyway, any time that I tried to play a DVD it would tell me on screen that the output was limited to 480p since I wasn't using HDMI. Not a huge deal since it was a DVD and my projector "upconverted" things pretty well on its own, but it was due to lacking copy protection of the analog signal.

So I can see this as something that the legals in the movie industry would push for, but as for if it is purely some guy's speculation, or maybe he read some online "prediction", or maybe it being actual truth is something that I wouldn't worry about yet.

Honestly, it sounds familiar as something I heard (a few years ago) was going to take place at some point. But I don't remember details, nor have I heard anything recently.

HBO has just turned on the bit that disallows their channels to be used over non-HDCP digital connections (think: original DVI), but they still allow analog HD. Though there is a bit to disallow analog at over 540 lines of resolution. It's just a question of if anyone will turn it on, and when. They don't want people using the unencrypted analog connections, but they also don't want to cause too many people to complain about their TV no longer working.

More than likely what you read and heard about and what received the most publicity was the eventual elimination of analog(component out) HD connections from Blu-Ray players which is, to a limited extent, already starting to happen. I have also seen the introduction, although not released yet, the elimination of "component out" connections of certain models of AVR/Pre-Pros. On these models, you still have component "in" BUT only HDMI "out". The whole concept has been all over the place since although this whole HDCP issue has been never brought to court, the manufacturers are trying to deal with any potential litigation down the road from the "HDMI police".

Of course and as usual, the lawyers make tons of money and the consumer(who pays the freight) suffers.

This Denon has ONLY HDMI connections, and the 1913 only has one component video in... Right now my system is all Analog... I don't know what i will do with all of my RCA's... it will be nice to be able to go to HDMI, due to the reduction in the over all number of cables... But, i would rather buy a new product on my terms and not due to a future update that no one really knows when it will come, but when it does my processor will instantaneously be out of date.

As you, no doubt, have seen, in the last couple of years, in order to still get the variety and number of connections you require, AVR manufacturers are essentially forcing the consumer to purchase their mid to high-end models while pretty well eliminating everything but the basics from the least expensive lines. The Denon design you refer to is a perfect example of that. Pre-outs were the first to go, then the other stuff.

I thought it has already been announce that all AVR or Bluray player that being made after Jan 2011 are no longer support 1080i over component output?

I have older players and AVR and all are still support component output of 1080i

I was really upset when I couldn't find a place to tie up my horse when I went out to the bar. Then folks stopped making horseshoes too. It was the last straw when we went out looking to upgrade our horse drawn carriage only to find there weren't any new models! At least I still have my typewriter.
