Yes, been here before. Well, for the next few years I am stuck with a left over area to start my room. I ended up using the area 13 x 23 to build my daughter a bigger bedroom, so now I have a room 11.5 x 15 x 7.5.
My tv is will be 65" so I am about 10 - 11ft away sitting.
so that leaves me at about 4 - 5ft space behind me.
Currently I have Anthem separates, MCA5 which will be upgraded someday. My plan was to use this for the ATMOS in ceiling speakers if I get there. and get a MCA50 for the surrounds. I would be getting either a new MCA325 or ADA1250 3ch for the fronts.

SO currently I have M80 and vp180, however these are going and I am replacing with ??? M22 and a VP160 or M60HP and a VP160.
I am just not sure if this smaller size warrants a M60HP. Also going with dual SVS SB2000 subs. I am pretty sure at a $1100 less difference in price I will not notice the difference with the EP500's.
SO, before I buy new amps etc I am wondering if ATMOS 5.2.4 or 7.2.4 would be a lot better than 5.2 or 7.2.

The other thing is not many movies out in DTS:x or Atmos also, it is getting very hard even renting movies.
Just wondering and thinking maybe save money for now and go with 5.2 or 7.2 and wait a few years and build a bigger room for ATMOS.

Right now, I am almost ready to go M22 and VP160 and hell I don't know what to do in a room this small.

V3.0 of my theater "experience" was in an irregular shaped 10' x 15' x 8' space. I was using M60 L/R, VP150 center and a pair of QS8 surrounds with an SVS sub. WAY more sound capability than I needed for that small of a space.

If you are going dual subs, then yeah, for that sized room the M22s will be great. The VP160 is a no brainer, as you already decided too.

Another situation. A friend of mine (who is VERY cheap in everything that he buys, except for cars and houses) wanted something "better" than his Panasonic HTIB setup. After a LOT of convincing I got him talked into in-wall M2 L/R, in-wall VP100 center, and four QS4s for around the space. This is a very large, open concept basement family room/bar setup (his bar area is probably as big as your theater will be, but he has 9 foot ceilings). They work great even in that large of a space. He is still missing out on a LOT with this crappy 8" "sub" that distorts when just trying to get it to 75dB for calibration. But you won't have that problem, and your space will be smaller.

As for DTS:X, that is a crap-shoot for sure with content, and while there ARE a ton of Atmos titles coming out this year, many of them will be reserved for UHD Blu-Ray meaning that you would need a new UHD player to get those audio tracks even if you don't hook up to a UHD/4K display. Most of these titles will be re-releases of existing/older movies, so you would also need to double-dip to get a lot of them, but the content IS coming. Plus the Dolby Sound Upmixer (Simulated Atmos) and the DTS Neural:X Upmixer do REALLY well at enhancing the audio experience if you have the speakers installed to use them.

Now, I am REALLY liking 7.2.4 over 7.2, but I just am not sure that you aren't going to end up with some audio issues to nail down with that small of a room. Almost every surface becomes a strong first reflection point and bounces every piece of audio all around. Just be ready for some acoustical treatments inside the room. DIY is effective, inexpensive, and pretty easy to do.

What are you using for surrounds? If you decide to, or ever plan to, go Atmos/DTS:X in the future, you will REALLY not want anything but monopole speakers in the room. If you start diffusing surround effects in that small of a space, then things get "muddy" really fast when the system tries to pinpoint and pan sounds accurately.

Yeh thats my concern right now is over kill. If I am not going to utlilize the M80 or M60 in that small a room, why not get the M22 and put the extra into something else.
Just not sure about the size if it would be too small for atmos.
Will be a few years before I put on a addition or move so figure maybe it best just to go M22 for now and maybe 7 or 5.2.

I have three sheets of 4x8 sound board from a movie theatre now. My plan was to cut that up into like 2x5 sheets and build frames around them. I think I can get 8 or 9 panels

Don't under estimate the power of the M22s with a good sub or two.

They do HT duties effortlessly...

Why downgrade before trying your existing gear?

Yes, had these before the M80's. pretty sure they will be more than sufficient. Just never had subs with them. anywyas have to figure out if the room be too small for ATMOS setup or 7.2.

Yeh, going to set the M80s up in the room first. and because probably have a set of towers upstairs for music. Just know I want more bottom end with towers, so will be looking at the M80HP when time comes or some other brands now that they all same price range.

I've had a few different speaker/sub configurations in a small room. 12X18X8.5

M22's / VP150 / EP600
M80V2 / 2 X M22's as center / EP600
M80V2 / M22's under scren / VP150 over screen / 2 EP 500V3
M60V3 / VP 160 / 2 EP 500V3
M80V4 / VP 160V4 / 2 EP 500V4

I also have QS8's as front heights, SB's, and Sur.

The M80's as mains are by far my favorite. The M22's, just didn't have the punch the M60s did, and definitely not the M80's.

The two sealed EP500's are amazing. Only thing I'd like to change, is to add a second VP160 over the screen. I really prefer the over/under center, over a single center.

I have two, 200wpc five channel amps driving the speakers, and am using a Denon 4311 as a pre-amp.

Overkill? Probably. But not CV overkill....lol

You're making me sad. I haven't had the disposable income for a while to stay truly competitive in the insanity department. Maybe time for a second job?

You could always 'upgrade' your car audio.... This has been my latest audio project. I'm trying to make my car slower so I can enjoy the music more. I probably added 100 pounds to a purpose built, light weight road race car. LOL... I got a bunch of help from the audio guys at corvette forum.
