New to the forums, met SocketMan on the 'other site' and suggested i come over.

I have M80 HPs and a vp180 (all v4) powered by a Marantz SR7008.

I'm going to be calibrating and configuring things over the next week or so.

My questions smile

1) my other speakers are a box store name brand, and thinking of keeping them for the surrounds and reusing the towers in the back for a 7.1 system. Considering the LCR are 4ohms and the rest are 8, would running 7.1 put too much stress on the AVR - as opposed to sticking with 5.1?

2)How important is timbre matching the 'surrounds'? I've read mixed reviews, and was considering the QS8's in the future, if i stuck with 5.1

3)I'm running a projector, so the 106" screen takes a good amount of space on the 13 ft wall. The M80s are about 6" from the back wall and 12" from the side, any suggestions on this distance?

4)Calibrating with xt32, any need to further get a SPL and continue.

thanks!

1- no problem as long as your room isnt long and you dont sit at the far end.

2- Not really. Our head transfer function makes off axis sounds shift in timber anyway. As long as they arent ridiculously mismatched. Level matched and placed as to not hotspot gets you almost all the way there.

3- need room dimensions and an idea of openings and wall contruction.

4- not unless you plan on tuning your room further by measurements. In spl cases an iphone/ipad app is good. I recommend Audio tools by studio 6 digital.
