Just moved into a recently purchased house, and currently determining speaker placement locations. I've been an owner of Axioms for over 10 years now, however I've been using GoldenEar Triton Ones and Super Center XXL for about three years now for LCR, but kept my pair of QS8s for side surrounds for a 5.2 setup. Now that I have a new place with about nine feet of space between the listening position and the back wall, I'd like to make it a 7.2 setup (possibly Atmos in the future).

I originally wanted to get more GoldenEar speakers to have all speakers matching (minus the subs) but I've found after keeping the QS8s this whole time that I've enjoyed listening to them. Also, they are a very capable surround speaker with a design that suits the room they'll be located in.

My question is, how do I wall mount, indicated in the included pictures, to give the QS8 a placement that's level and pointed near the listening position? The Full Metal bracket looks like it would work, but it doesn't appear that it would be able to turn all of the way without hitting the wall. I need a way to extend the speaker outward and then turn it to the listening position. Drilling into the stone fireplace is not an option. I seem to remember a stand that was made specifically for this speaker, with a hole in the bottom for the down firing driver, but apparently it's no longer made by Axiom.

If I understand correctly, you are looking to mount into the drywall/stud on the wall perpendicular to the stone fireplace but then rotate the speaker so that it points in the same direction as the stone wall (i.e. the stone wall is your back wall). In that case, the Axiom mounts don't stick-out enough for a full rotate.

One option would be a longer mount like these:

You would need a bracket to fit over the pole mount to anchor onto the QS8s

You could also go the DIY route using black pipe and fittings found in your local hardware store. You would need a floor flange to mount to a stud, an 8" pipe, a 90 degree elbow, another length of pipe to bring QS-8 flush with stone wall and another floor flange to mount the speaker onto... I've done this in the past as a DIY projector mount with a piece of wood between the floor flange and projector to properly align screw holes.

Which direction do you want the QS8s facing - "out from the fireplace" or "out from the white wall" ?

I understand you don't want to mess up the fireplace but my first thought when I saw the DeWalt (drill ? screwdriver ?) in the second picture was...

"if drilling into the fireplace is not an option then maybe you need a bigger drill" grin

Rather than FMB, how about making wooden 90 degree brackets painted to match the wall plus the standard wall mounting/hanging plate ?

EDIT - interestingly enough the QS8 stands still show up on Amazon, and if you click on "sellers" it says "Axiom"

Looking for some feed back on how people are liking the QS10s .I was at Axiom on the weekend and I am considering switching out my QS8s for a set any feedback would be great.

The second picture is actually taken from the perspective of the main LP, the camera being where by head is. The fireplace is actually the right side of the room, facing the TV and not the back. I don't want to mess up the stone on the fireplace anymore than it already has, as the previous owner of the house drilled a few holes in it for a fireplace mount. Looks like I may need to go a DIY route.

Thanks, that helps a lot. Agree that you are probably looking at DIY if a floor stand is not an option.

My first thought would be to mount a nice-looking shelf on the wall and have it cantilever out past the fireplace to give you a good mounting position for the speaker.

If a floor stand *is* an option, remember that you can make a nice simple QS8 stand with either a vertical board or a couple of vertical 2x2's with a flat plate between them at the top to take the wall-hanging bracket.

The QS8 hangs out in front of the vertical(s) but that puts the weight in a good spot for stability.

Find the joists and ceiling mount those suckers.

Yep, that's an even better idea.
