Hello, I'm a newb. I thought I'd get some direction while I search for the many questions that I have and perhaps get some advice quickly. I just bought a new 4K AVR Onkyo NVR676 and it drives 165 watts continuous per channel @ 6ohms. I also purchased a pair of M60 TI towers 8ohm and a VP-100 center speaker. Should I use the 6 ohm or 4 ohm setting of my AVR? I had an older pair of JBL LX22's bookshelf speakers and hooked them up as my surround speakers. I bought a Dayton 12" subwoofer and connected it with one side of an RCA cable just using one of the connectors on both ends. I would like to know what suggestions do you folks have on getting the most from the Axiom's. I am using 18 AGW speaker wires and the connections on the Axioms are huge. Also I bi-amp wired them to the AVR according to the Onkyo manual, but read in some forums that this is a waste of time. I didn't catch any stickies, but any help with some hi-fi basics regarding crossover settings, LFE/LPF, EQ settings, etc.

It's 210W @ 6 Ohms (unless you bought an older of the same model) but that spec isn't that meaningful frankly. You can expect around 100 clean watts for 2-channel and that should be plenty. I trust Onks - good buy!

Set to 6 Ohm. The 4 Ohm setting limits the output voltage and that's bad.

Bi-amping is an ok practice particularly since it's free. It's bi-wiring that isn't useful except in some systems.

Start by setting the cross-over to 80Hz.

So my M60TIs have the gold plates and I've removed them and run additional speaker wires to the SL + SR of the AVR, and chose BI-amp to yes in the AVR configuration. My speaker configuration is 5.1, two towers, a sub, a front and my rear bookshelve speakers are connected to RL and RR. My speakers are mounted at 4:30 and 7:30 from the listening position at ear level. Do I have to have two more speakers at 3 and 9 to get surround sound? Or does the AVR do (emulate) that when I select that as a listening mode(s)?

Put your speakers at 3 and 9 and forget about the back. That's called 5.1. Our ears are quite insensitive to sounds from behind. I've tried many kinds of speakers in the back and can't hear much of anything.
