So here’s a somewhat hypothetical problem I need help with. Suppose you finally managed to convince the wife you need to spend $1,500 on a set of HT speakers to finish off the family room. It’s a big rectangular room, 22 x 15.

You have to choose either the Epic Grand Master or the Epic 50. These will be powered by a Yamaha RX-V2400 receiver w/ 65in Mitsubishi RPTV.

Now, here comes the ethical dilemma. I know that it’s going to be at least 10-12 months before I can start the talk of a speaker upgrade.

So, do I start with the m50/QS4 combo and plan on eventually upgrading the surrounds to QS8’s and relegate the 4’s to rear duty?

Or, do I go with the M22/QS8 combo and plan on eventually upgrading the fronts to M60’s and relegate the M22ti’s to rear duty (seems like overkill?)

If it were me, I would go with the M22/QS8 plan. But I guess either plan would be perfectly "ethical" -- I don't see any unethical elements here...

I agree with Sushi's plan. Start with M22's.

Don't forget about the VP150 upgrade for the center. (just to throw in another wrench for you).

I believe QS4 for rear duty will not sonically match with Qs8 when you upgrade later. I agree that M22/Qs8 combo is more "upgrade path" friendly. Get a good subwoofer and you can add a VP150 later.
