I'm looking at upgrading my M22 front speakers. My listening room is about 2800 cubic feet and wondering if floor standing models will fill the room better and produce better quality of sound. I'm considering the M60's or M80's.
Just wondering if the extra cash for the M80's is worth it? Would like to hear from people who have experience with both or any other suggestions maybe?

At present I have M22's; VP150; QS8's; and EP350; all V2.

You are looking to 1. fill the room better and 2. produce better quality of sound.

Filling the room better could be construed to mean you want a) larger images, b) a wider and deeper soundstage and/or c) more voluminous bass. An M60v4 will get you a, b and c compared to the M22v2.

Producing better quality of sound could be construed to mean you want improved fidelity when it comes to bass, midrange and treble. I had v2 of the same vintage as you (M80, 150, QS8, 600). Suffice it to say v4 is a chasm away from v2 both for fidelity and soundstage resolution.

Do you have pics of your listening space Hector? I went from 60's to 100s a few weeks ago and just love them. There are some 80s on the B Stock list, last time I looked, but things keep selling so maybe gone now. There really isn't a wrong choice here, you'll love the sound a full cabinet makes, I enjoyed my 60's for 15 years.

I have m60ti. ( yup old ones ). But they’re great. I really like enjoy them.

I have about 2400 cubed feet of listening volume that is connected to and opens to about 4500-5000 cubed feet volume.

It’s essentially the whole main floor ( 3 floors in all but it’s the middle floor ) at 700-725sq ft with 8 foot ceiling with a small half wall with pass thru to kitchen and open doorway. Anyway....

At moderate volume with my basic receiver I get very nice sound that fills the space reasonably. This is a 2 channel setup only. I can get good bass if I “ corner load “ the speakers or get amazing holographic sound with them pulled away and nice nice , not boomy.

However at loud volume I don’t have enough power and things start to distort as the speakers try to pressurize the space with the limited power.

Long story shorter, I think in your volume of space an m80hp would do really well. I have no experience with the HP woofer but it would likely give you the bass you want without having to buy subs. Then I’d take take the ep350 and m22s and make a nice bedroom or office system.

If the m80hp still wasn’t enough ( it probably would be I think) then add some nice new v4 subs. As Rebulx said there’s some nice v4 m80hp on the bstock right now.

Hope that helps as an opinion. It’s just what came to my mind as I thought about it if your system was mine.

Edit: easy to say all that when it’s not my money. !:) The m80hp bstock would still be cheaper than a new pair of m60 v4 hp or not hp. Hope that helps, happy shopping

Yes, floorstanders are better at filling larger rooms if you can sit away from them.

You will want M80s in that room no sub or M60s with sub.

Cheaper to go M80HP and skip the sub if you have a good amplifier.

It would help to know whether you are referring to music or HT or both when you state "quality" and "fill the room" - and what your amplification that drives your current setup. What's missing to you in the sound? Are you driving your amp too hard with the speakers to fill the space, causing strained sounding noises?

I have a similar sized room, running M80's, VP160, dual EP350's and off brand surrounds. Assuming (yes, I know) that your amplification is of an acceptable quality and not the limiting factor, my first suggestion to improve your HT would be to trade in the VP150 for a VP160. This would be a huge difference.

You could then trade in your M22 on M80's, or keep them for surround duty.
