I would like some advice on using an usual subwoofer with my Axiom setup. I live in a tiny laneway house - my living room is about 12 x 14 ft. The Axioms were built into the house design: M80 cabinet versions for L and R, VP150 for centre and some M2s in the walls. Small house/big sound, but there was no room at all for a conventional subwoofer. In time I found a flat (and cheap) subwoofer that fits under the couch (Theatre Solutions Sub8s). This worked much better than you might think, probably because my space is so small.

Now the problem: I bought a new receiver, and when I ran the Audyssey setup I ended up with a much worse sound than before - tinny and disappointing. I think the solution is to use the M80s more as full range speakers and just augment them with the little sub, but how to do this is above my pay grade. Any suggestions appreciated.

Things to try:

1. Turn off Audyssey
2. Select a different Audyssey setting if equipped e.g. movie vs music curve
3. Set M80s to large
4. Bump up the bass
5. Lower the treble
6. Bump up the LFE gain
7. Play with EQ settings if equipped in the receiver

Thanks for replying, Mojo. Yes I am better off without Audyssey and things are sounding better in manual mode.
