Ok, figure this one out. This is a brand new problem.

My ALFR woofers are fed from a 1500-2. My sides are fed from a 1000-2.

My ALFR woofers are only working when the 1500-2 is off and the 1000-2 is on. My side surrounds no longer work.

I haven't touched the wiring since I set the system up years ago.

I don't even want to think about this problem because it's so bizarre. I am afraid to look at the wiring. If it has been changed, I am not sure what I'd do!

Mojo,

I’m sure you’re familiar with Occam’s Razor?

I think I’d suggest exploring this ghost phenomena. Perhaps ASR can come over with some instrumentation to explore magnetic fields to find the ghosts.

Or…..you could check the wiring and jog your memory and I bet you come up with a memory of when you did some good kind of switch or change or experiment and it got wired wrong.

But I’m going with ghosts for sure. Your system is haunted and should be sold immediately.

Holy moly! I've been powering the triple woofer array with the 1000 all along. That's the only possible answer. So that 1000 has been working against the triple HP load which goes lower than 2 Ohms.

Wow. The ADA -1000 is a tough little amplifier!!!

I can hear it now- 2 ada-1500 for sale, lightly used to power rear channels.

Glad you figured it out, it wasn’t ghosts eh?

I checked with my son and he didn't do it. I thought maybe he was curious if the 1000 could power the triple HP array. I remember we talked about it.

So there you go. Clear evidence of gray matter erosion. Now we know though that the 1000 can dish it out. I still say though if you are using the 1000 with a relatively insensitive speaker like the M5 in pure 2-channel and sitting 14 feet away, it's not enough for movies or party music.

Maybe it’s the bass that is eroding your gray matter….( I think I heard rrlev chuckle from here…you’re welcome Rich):).

Mojo, your Ada-1500 probably has enough juice to work as a defibrillator too incase your gray matter really fails. Now that’s some wiring you don’t want to get wrong. All though I bet if you snuggled your chest up to the 800 and put on Ghostbusters you’d re-incarnate your unique soul right then and there. At least you know you have the wiring to your ALFRs correct now.

Tyler, I can tell you're not a medical doctor. The 800 can only be used to defribrillate the heart, man!

I haven't changed the HP woofer wiring. Too much of a PITA. The grey matter destruction was taking place with the 1000-8 and 1000-2.

Oh BTW, I have replaced the QS10 with M5OW just for shits and giggles. I really can't tell if they're better than the QS10s.

It was a test mojo, to see how badly damaged your grey matter really is. And you passed!!! Way to go!!!

And you are correct again, I’m not a doctor so I would definitely not take any medical advice from me!

Have you checked to see if anything else is wired differently than you think it is? Maybe color code the ends or label them as you install ( I’m being serious here). I imagine there is a lot of wiring for an active system plus your peripheral speakers and subs too.

Speaking of m5OW……My brother is considering m5OW ( and m3ow and m2ow with sub) He wants to replace his m60ti with something with a smaller footprint. So standmounts are out. He wanted in walls but I told him go for the OW and m5OW and maybe he won’t need a sub. He’s in a medium sized space. Long and narrow with 10 foot ceiling. It would be for 2 channel music and very occasional 2 channel TV movies.

Do you have a thread bookmarked with m5OW comments and discussion I can forward to him? No stress if it’s a pain. Searching topics in this forum overturns literally every rock ever made.

You can point your brother to my M5 review at the link below under "customer reviews". Unfortunately, judging from what appears on my phone, all my careful formatting has been wiped out so it may be hard to read.

The OW are no different than the bookshelves with the exception that the holographic effect may be more 2D than 3D. I'm fortunate that I derive a pretty good 3D effect because they flank a bow window. It's a great way to declutter a room.

Incidentally, there is no agreed-upon standard for on-wall or in-wall speakers. The spinorama science doesn't apply. So manufacturers do the best they can by nailing the OW to a section of wall and take curves for half space instead of full space. How manufacturers conduct this test, interpret their results and modify their design largely determines how good the OW sounds in a customer's home. Axiom uses a 4'x4' section of drywall for this test BTW. Axiom did a great job BTW as I've said in many posts.

As for a sub, he won't know what he's missing until he adds one.

It's a rat's nest of wiring. I wired it wrong twice when I first got it. I suck at doing wiring because I'm not an electrician like Trevor. I can definitely build beautiful wiring diagrams though. Just don't ask me to follow them.

They are all color coded. + is red and - is black. grin
