I just ordered a pair of M60's (Can hhardly wait to receive them). I will be using them in a HT system with a pair of Jamo bipolar surround and a Jamo rear center. What would be an acceptable height for the center speaker? The surrounds are on sidewalls about 6 feet from the ground. I also could use some guidance in positioning the rear sub (An old DCM). The Front sub is a ten inch Klipsch. This system is being set up in a basement 17 x 11 feet, with carpeting over a concrete floor. The couch is is placed abour 10 1/2 feet from the front wall. I have a 36" tube TV. Is the front center better off on top of the TV. or should I get a seperate stand and place it in front of the TV on the same plane as the front speakers. The "textbook" location for the rear center speaker is on the center of the rear wall, at the same height as the side surrounds. The second subwoofer doesn't have to be a "rear sub" -- the subwoofer sound is not and should not be localizable. In other words, all the subs do is to excite the entire room with bass frequencies. The optimal placement for the two subs can only be determined by the actual try-and-error. Good places to start with are two corners of the room or along the opposing walls (sides or front/rear) near their centers. As for the center channel, what you should aim at is to have the front L/C/R at about the same distance from the primary listening position. So, rather than on the same plane, the center should be placed so that it makes an arch with the front L/R. That said, most of today's AV receivers have channel delay (speaker distance) adjustments, so this is not absolutely critical.

Thanks for the reply. An additonal question. If I were to put the rear center on the back wal it would be about 7 feet behind the listening point with the surrounds about equal with the listening point at six feet above the floor. Would this still be correct placement?

That should be fine. By the way, the 6th channel on the 6.1 system is called the "rear surround" channel -- functionally very different from the (front) center channel.

So I assume I just adjust the loudness of the rear center to compensate tfor the distance between that speaker and the surrounds?

I have found in every setup I have had that 2 subs stacked in the same corner works best, but you should definitely experiment.

As for the rear surround all you need to do is adjust the distance on the receiver or preamp to what the distance of the rear speaker to the listening position is, and then using the test tones on VE, DVE, or Avia adjust the output level (75db) to match the rest of your speakers.

Does this work even if the subs are not of the same brand?

Yeah, I've used a Velodyne HGS-12, and a M&K MX350 stacked in the same corner.
