This is my first post on this forum, this will also be my first system. I believe I have done enough Homework to pull the trigger on a HT. This is the system I configured, which I plan to buy in the near future and need to hear some of your thoughts:

m22's (front)
150 (center)
Qs8's (rear)
vtf 2

My room is 12x16 and I view my screen from the shorter of the 2 lengths(12ft). I listen to 70% music 30% movies. I plan to put the center on top of my TV(65") wall mount the m22's as well as the Qs8's. The only problem I have is my computer center is quite large and prohibits any speaker to be larger than 14 inches in my front left corner of my room. This is where my left m22 is suppose to be, I will have mount it horizontally, I will do the same to the front right m22 as well so they are in sync with each other. I know what your probably saying to yourself- (m22 horizontally?? what is he thinking) I have read many posts reguarding this problem and they all turned up the same "not recommended". I have considered the M3 but the comparisons between them led me to decide on the m22. I live in an apartment for now, so down the road I will most likely have more room to accomodate the M22's.

Please post your opinions- They are grealy appreciated-

Welcome, Aqua. It isn't entirely clear from your description why there'd be such a restriction on speaker height, but if that's the case, in my view the M2s would work well in your size room at your listening position. The lack of low bass would be no problem because of the VTF-2, of course.

Thanks for replying JohnK, The restriction on speaker height is because my computer center is 65 inches in height and leaves 14 inches of clearance from the drop ceiling. The computer center takes up all of my front left wall.

The only reason I wanted to get the m22 is because of all the praise its been given to compaired to other bookshelfs in it class. In the future I will be getting a house in which I will have room for the M22's vertically. Basically I just didn't want to feel the itch to upgrade later. Is this a poor decision on my part? Will they really sound that disoriented with the rest of my system? I realize that the tweeters are meant for vertical dispersion- will this effect the soundstage drastically?

I briefly played around with various orientations of my M22s and just as I found that the above-tweeter-axis response was a bit better than below when they were vertical, the same effect made it better to have the tweeters toward the inside when they were horizontal and widely separated. Alan Lofft has also tried these orientations and reported that he thought the result of horizontal positioning was quite acceptable. I'm still not enthusiastic and suspect that I'd prefer vertical M2s(which I don't have), but it should work reasonably well up there with a slight downward tilt.

I'll add that you can find some interesting comments by both Ian and Alan resurrected in Home Theater on 12/15 in the thread "M22 fronts with M3 center..."

Go for it. Then you'll be thrilled when the sound gets better when you can move them!

Ditto what Ken said. Once you move you'll be glad you have the M22s'.
