The header says it all. I've currently got a Mirage MCC-R center channel speaker that I'm using with a pair of Audiosphere Research fronts and Axiom QS4 rears. It's mismatched I suppose, but the system sounds *amazing*. At the same time, as I get ready to move into my first house (!), I'm considering getting a pair of M80's for my new home theater room, which will be in a basement 12x20 with 7 foot ceilings. Should I worry about the Axioms "outing" the Mirage center as far as even soundstaging goes? Also, would the M80's be okay in a room this size?
I have been reading a lot of threads in this forum, so far I have never heard a person that mentioned a different brand matched the M80 or M60. People in this forum will only suggest you with VP150.
Regardless of how good your speakers are, NOTHING will beat a timbre matched setup across the front 3 channels
Wow, I'm glad that I enquired. Thanks for the responses. So it looks like I'll be getting a new center channel speaker. Would the 150 be overkill for a 12x20 room? It certainly looks like a beautiful speaker, but the 100 might be better suited to this size of room. Or am I incorrect? I wouldn't want to muddy up the soundstage by having too much coming out in all directions. Thanks again for helping me here. Thjis board is invaluable and I'm still learning!
If you don't have the cash for the new center, don't worry about it for now. It's not gonna kill you to have mismatched speakers. If you do, I'd say the VP150 would be better than the 100, but not having heard it, who knows? :-)
I have m60s, vp150 and qs8s in the exact same size room. I wouldn't change a thing.
what wall is the HT going on? the 12ft wall or the 20 ft wall? if it is on the 12 foot wall i suggest the vp150
i have heard the mirage center and i thought the voices were slightly muddled compaired to other centers(i have not heard the vp150 myself)

type E-although that is mostly true, i dont think it is a fair statement. the general rule of thumb is to match speakers. match bose with bose, paradigm with paradigm, and axiom with axiom. in the case of bose and other inferior speakers, the next general rule of thumb is to start over and look elsewhere.
I am saying this because I have read threads about VP150 not up to the quality of QS8 and M60. I have also read M60 sound very similar to Paradigm Studio 60. I have also read Paradigm Studio CC-570 is far superior to VP150. However, I have never heard anyone who would mix M60Ti w/ CC-570. As such, I could say no one in this board would suggest another Center to match M60 or M80
