Having received some money for x-mas I have decided to upgrade my old dolby pro-logic system. I have done lots of resarch and, due to a lack of good audio stores nearby, I am seriously thinking of getting some axioms through the internet (although I am also going to drive 45 minutes to the nearest paradigm dealer). I think that what I want is the following:

Onkyo TX-SR501, or TX-SR601
Axiom Qs 4 Surronds
Axiom V100 Center
Axiom M2i or M3ti
HSU STF-2

My question is, would I be better off with the M2i or M3ti. Since the price difference between the two is so small, I can swing either and stay on budget. The room that the HT will be in is @ 15x12 and has hardwood floors which are mostly covered by an area rug. Any help you all can give would be great.

I have not listened to either speaker, but it seems the consensus around here is that if the M22's are out of your price range, then the M2's are preferable for use in a home theater system. The M3's are preferred for use in a stereo setup. because of their better bass.

You haven't explained what your main use for the speakers will be - i.e.,mostly music, mostly HT, etc..

I've never heard the M3's, but I own a pair of M2's. From what I've read here, the M3's, as Mark said, are considered more of a "stereo" speaker and are mostly used for music listening.

The M2, although small, is an extremely accurate speaker which is designed for use with a sub. It does 90% of its work in the mid and high frequencies, while the bass is rolled off to the sub. It's also capable of handling a lot of power!

I think the M2 is one of the best buys in the audio market today. Mine get used ALL day, EVERY day, yet I'm still astounded every time I listen to them!

it will be a mostly home theater setup with prolly 70/30 split. another option i just came up with is, get the cheaper tx-sr501 and use the extra money to upgrade to the m22's. are they that much better than the m2's?

redtide (new england connection? the darn thing savages the Maine coast), you might get some thoughts from this recent thread on the stereo forum:

Sounds like M22s may be the better long-term investment, but the M2s would work great as well. Just beware of incurring speaker envy .... Finding a way to buy the M22s will help forestall that.
