I have been waiting a long time for the HSU VTF-3 MKII to be released in black piano finish and now it looks like April. So I got a TN1220HO sub instead. I have been running M80's in the front, VP150, QS8's, and Bose AM-5's for 7.1. I have an awkward room that doesn't let me aesthetically place a proper Dolby setup with the rears a bit forward So I have the Bose centered behind the sofa on the floor. I also plan on wall mounting the QS8's. With that in mind...

What do you think would sound better?

1. Running as-is

2. Go with 6.1 using one more QS8 (wall mount above window)

I can't see how eradicating Bose from your home could ever be a bad thing

I'd be sorely tempted to try the single QS8 solution. If you don't like it, you can always send it back.

Another option (especially given that you've got to have the L/R surrounds "behind") might be to get a direct-radiating speaker for the rear channel - like a M2. Rather than bounce signals all around with 3 QS8's, it is possible that a direct radiating rear surround might help "anchor" the surround material better.

There really is no 7.1 source material; depending upon your receiver, it is most likely just the same signal out of both of the rear channels. My understanding is that even the 6th channel is virtually always simply synthesized by the receiver rather than being part of the source. Craig (spiffnme) went from 5.1 to 7.1 and the change did not exactly rock his world.

But really, romy, buddy, you've got an awesome setup. Unceremoneously ditch the Bose.

May be use another room for your HT? Some houses have a weird family room, but then there is a living room that us quite useless sometimes and you can use it as the HT

We use a single QS8 in the middle of the back wall. It sounds great when being used, especially with a discrete 6.1 movie.

Are your QS8's all the same height? Right now, I am leaning on a 3rd Qs8 but may have to mount it a few feet higher than the others.

My QS8's are mounted at the same height. I'm sure it won't matter if your QS8's are perfectly matched in mounted height.
