I'm currently building my listenting/HT room. It will be 15x10 when finished. My seating position will be 12 feet from the front wall, 3 feet from the rear.

I want to run the wire in the wall before before the drywall goes up. However, I'm wondering about placement.

Should I put the QS8's at 12 feet as well?

Should I put them behind my seating position? If so, would it they too close to the rear wall?

Since the room is somewhat narrow, would the down-firing speaker be distracting? Almost like having a direct-radiating speaker?

How high to place them on the wall.

Thanks
Here's what Dolby recommends:

As I understand it, the general consensus seems to be slightly behind the listening position, and 2 to 4 feet above the listeners ears. But, I've also heard that if you can't get the surrounds behind the listening position, then slightly in front of it will suffice. Can't speak from experience though.

If you put yours on the side walls, say a foot behind the listening position, that would leave you two feet from that back wall, and I would think that would be OK. The above link will provide you with alternative positioning. It recommends experimenting, but in your case, that would be difficult because you (wisely) want to run your wires BEFORE drywalling.

GTI, place them slightly behind your seating position and about six feet up. One foot from the rear wall is enough to allow the back tweeters to "bounce" some sound off that wall.
qs8's are VERY forgiving. See my pix to see them. They're somewhat off center, 3' above the ear, and about 1' to 2' back. Works great after using Pioneer's MCACC. Rear effects come in loud and clear (and believeable...)

BTW, my room is 27' x 18'

Unless of course you poke their drivers, in which case they hold a nasty grudge.

Congratulations! You are the lucky recipient of my 2000th post! (Time to check myself into an AA (Axiom Addict) clinic.
Ah. An appropriately nonsensical post. Congrats, Peter. You're now officially insane.
