I am new to the forum and am interested in the QS 8 surrounds to be used in a 5.1 system with Martin Logan Aerius i and Cinema. Does anyone have experience with these surrounds and ML or Magnepan speakers? I am aware of the 30 day return policy but I am trying to get some input prior to making a purchase decision. Thanks.

I owned a pair of MMG for quite a while, had to get rid of them due to room contraints. Still my favorite pair of "budget speakers".

On the other hand, the QS8's are my favorite surround speakers. They are GREAT for movies. If you are planning on using these for multi-channel stereo, it may not sound the best (or more appropriately, may not match your MLs).

Still hoping for info regarding forum experience with planar speakers like my Martin Logans with the Axiom surrounds. Am also concerned about the limited (95 hz) bass response of these speakers. Am also considering the M&K column surrounds too.

I pretty much just listen to 2-channel stereo. But from what I understand, the logic that process the surround channels isn't going to send low frequency information to the surrounds anyway - they ALL go straight to the sub. So I really wouldn't worry too much about frequency response.

Surrounds are supposed to provide diffuse sound to create ambiance. Since these radiate in 4 directions, I imagine they'd be pretty darn good at it. They aren't terribly large, either - so you can always take advantage of the 30 day home trial and you won't be out much money if you don't like 'em.

I'm not an expert, but nobody else has really replied.

I would guess no...

I suggest that you buy some and try them out. If they're not to your liking, you can always return them!

Well, I don't want to take the time to home try everything if I can help it. It takes too much time and money. I still want to hear from people who have SACD/DVD-A players and how the QS 8s work in that situation. I do not doubt that the diffuse sound field of the QS 8 is great for movies but I have my doubts where music is involved since most hi def sources have discrete signals from each channel which strongly mitigates in favor of monopoles in the rear.

i have 2 8's in the rear corners of my room, and they sound excellent to me doing 5 channel dvd-a's.
