I searched (admittedly perhaps not enough) for information in the forums on stands. I have a pair of M22s (hmmmm m22s) on stands that MDF and either 16 or 18 inches tall. I then (we are talking ghetto here) boosted the speakers by placing about 4 thick hardbound books on the stands to raise the speakers to 24 inches high. I think this sounds better than it did previously and want to get stands that are more stable (I live in SF and quakes are a real concern). I am thinking of getting metal stands that I can fill. But, before I go spending even more money I want to ask you all a couple of questions:

1. If you have M22s how tall are the stands you are using?
2. Have you tried varying heights and found one that you would most recommend?
3. What type of stand are you using and what would you recommend?
4. Where did you buy them?

Oh, I'd really rather not spend $200 on stands, but looks do count. Being single means I don't have to worry about SAF, but I'm a bit on the metro side so don't want something that looks like it belongs in a frat house. Some day I will find that lucky lady and if I can avoid the later hassle (of SAF) now I'll be ahead of the game.

Thanks

jr

check out the stands at Parts express http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/pshowdetl.cfm?&PartNumber=240-744&DID=7

Those are only 100 bucks and should be more than strong enough. nuff said. to check heights just put them at a height, like 24" and see if they sound good.

i have the m22s and i like having the tweeter a little over ear level (1 to 3 inches above) and so i went with 31" stands. i suppose i couldve gotten away with 28" stands, but man... my 31" stands look tight!!

if u want pics, i will take some for u!

Well i made my Stands, sounds a little Honky Tonkish but they do look good i used a 4x4 as the Column an 1 inch thick wood for the Top an bottom but what i did to make them a Little Unique was the Top i cut it exactly like the MI22's an then went an got some Black Vinyl Paint which is Glossy but loooks good even my budds liked it they go them look koool an all for like $20 lol but they are 19 inches tall an i also have a Pair of 24 inch tall ones that are Sand filled really didn't hear much Difference jus seemed to have a Touch better sound on the 19 inch high one where the Tweeter was at Ear level. U know i was going to do this was get me a PVC Pipe an a Couple Pcs wood an use the Threaded rod with Nutz to hold it together an u could still make it Sand Fillable an jus use the Vinyl Paint

Hi JamesR,

The M22s are quite adaptable in terms of stand height. I've used them on 16-inch stands and currently have them on 24-inch stands to raise them to the height of my TV display.

The only difference I notice when you raise the stand height is that the soundstage shifts higher, which I generally prefer. This is a matter of taste. Sometimes when I switch to large floorstanding towers (the M80ti's), the soundstage shifts down somewhat, as though I were looking down towards the performers. I find that a bit annoying at first but after listening a bit, you accommodate it.

There's a site called racksandstands.com that has a huge selection at various prices.

Regards,

Don't you hate it when your period key breaks?

Thanks guys. I'll check out the site and maybe keep experimenting with thick books 'till I find the height I like the most.
