I'm curious if anyone can tell me the difference between the Denon 1083 and the 3803 or 3805 recievers. The specs are pretty close to each other. The manual I looked at on the denon site is used for both models. I was told by a sales guy at the local HT shop that denon just put cheaper components in the 1083 to meet a price point for the chain electronic stores. Was told by another that there is hardly any difference at all. Well there is a $300 price difference. Reviews of the 1083 are not easy to come by.
I'm doing the search now for a reciever and Denon seems to be the way to go for my price point, although I hear the manual sucks.

TC, my understanding is that the 3803 and 1083 are identical, except for price. If the higher price on the 3805 is acceptable, it has significant advances, such as DPLIIx and automatic equalization(microphone about $60 extra).

I' likely goign to be a 1083 tommarow nite myself. Curious they would make their " Pro " line of AVRs have the cheap components...

I really don't buy the idea that there are cheaper components in the 1083. I think there are less "features".
Is prologic IIx worth $300???? I don't think so. Seems more like a market share thing. I checked with the local electronics chain and they can't even order the 3805, so it gotta be the "exclusive" line. Let us know what you think of the 1083.

The 3805 also has upconverting.. Which means rca and s video can be upconverted to component. Thats a nice feature. 3805 also has higher watt per channel rating, really cool door over buttons, nice remote too. All except the upconverting serves no real bonus. I hide all my 3805 in a closet and still paid the extra for the really cool door. So if your ever at my house and put your coat away please tell me what neat 3805 I have ; )

The 1083/3803 upconverts as well. The mecahniics are the same, but the 1083 only has a one year warranty (don't know why). If saving the $$ are important, the 1083 will be a fine choice. I seem to remember that the 1083 is designated to be sold through different channels that the 3803, but I can't remember the details.
