Hi,
I have a question of placing qs4. My listening chair is only 1 feet from the back wall. How far should I place QS4 on the side wall from the back wall? and How high should i place qs4 from the ground (my room height is 8 feet and ear level is 36-37 inches from the ground)? I'm just trying to figure out the distance so that I can order speaker wire and qs4.

thanks a bunch.

Why not place them on the back wall anyway? Think most of us in the same situation have done the same thing. Putting them on a side wall within a few feet of the back wall will create some reflective ugliness. Is there enough space to put them flanking the listening position?

My aural transducers (ears) are 47" above the floor when seated (I'm a tall one and the couch is overstuffed), the middle of the tweeters are mounted at about 52" above the floor (estimation because they're currently back in their boxes while we renovate - but based on where the brackets are) and are separated by 8' 6" - just outside the footprint of the couch, which is less than optimal, but if I'd slid them out any farther, one would be too close to a hard corner, I'm a bit limited in my options due to a built-in.

I'd say try something in the low 40s range.

AF, as Bren suggested, since you'll be sitting so close to the back wall you can consider mounting them on the back wall very widely separated(say about a foot from the side walls). If the side walls are more convenient for some reason, mount them as far back as possible, not more than a foot from the back wall. In other words, there'd be relatively little difference between the two mounting positions. The typical suggestion as to height is 2-3' above your ears.
John, you do mean 2-3 INCHES, not FEET above the ears, n'est pas?

Bren R.
Bren, 2-3' above ear level is the commonly recommended height for surround speakers.
From the Axiom FAQ:

"Where should I place my surround speakers?
Ideally, surround speakers should be either wall-mounted or stand-mounted to either side of the couch or primary listening area, from one to six feet higher than seated listeners' ears, and slightly forward or rearwards of the listening area if you wish. Axiom's Quadpolar surrounds are especially versatile and can yield excellent performance with stand or wall-mounting to the rear as well as at side locations."

Six feet sounds a little high to me. I would think four feet would be the max. But, that's just my opinion. I offer no scientific proof.
IMO, the QS series speakers can go almost anywhere. With all the different settings the amp offers you can get the sound you want without worrying about a few feet or side wall or back wall. Increasing levels to the surrounds helps if you want to put them a little for back.
