I'm about to purchase my mains. I currently have the Klipsch kg4.2 and blew out a passive radiator during LOTR return of the king. I have an Outlaw 755 which can drive a 4 ohm load just fine. I also own the vp150 and qa8's with an Earthquake Supernova 15 MKIV sub.

My question is this: I have 18w*20d*8h room that is open to the rest of the house (split level). I like the Idea of going with the M80ti. Is this too much speaker?
I don't understand what makes a speaker too big for a room, but I do understand if a speaker is too small.

I seriously doubt that the M80s would be too much speaker for a space that large. The only real question is would the M60s be enough speaker for a space that large.

The M60s and M80s are reputed to sound very similar with the 80s playing a little deeper, and able to play louder (i.e. fill a larger space)

If you choose the 80s, just be sure you have a receiver or amplifier that will comfortably handle a 4 ohm load.

Thanks Jack. The Outlaw 755 is a 200 watt per channel amp @ 8 Ohms and 300 @ 4 Ohms if I'm not mistaking.

Well the 755 will sure handle the M80s. One of the things that we often recommend around here is that you give Axiom a call, and ask what they think. They are very helpful, and they will NOT try to talk you into anything they don't honestly feel is right for you. They value a satisfied customer more than making a quick sale. Very often they recommend a less expensive path, rather than a more expensive one.

I have the exact same room dimensions, split level house and the M80's in my system. The sound seems to fill the house with the music, kind of flowing to all levels. If I'm in another part of the house and return to the main listening area I'm reminded just how loud and well it's playing. Go for the M80's. They are plain and flat out "Long Ball Hitters". To reflect what I've read elsewhere about too much speaker, I ain't never had too much fun.

Based on your other system components, it seems that you may prefer going with the biggest, most affordable units you can find. Also considering your room dimensions and the fact it is not a small room, i would go for the M80s.

I've been reading these forums for a year now and it seems that everyone seems to go with the smaller speakers. I'm not sure if it's a buget thing or the 4 Ohm road block. I appreciate the imput very much! I'm also considering 7.1, however I dont have a full back wall. I'm thinking of the M22ti's on stands??? Are these a good match for the system I have? Again thanks.

Tom - welcome! Jack & Chess are dead nuts on. The M80s are not "too much speaker". One can never have enough audio . Your decision should be governed by what you want. The M60s will absolutely fill the space, without question. The M80s will give you more headroom (and cost a bit more). By all means, if you can swing it , the M80s ewill be wonderful. Please note that the placement of the M80s are a bit finicky. I'm in a 16x22x10 room opening to a 14x20 kitchen and am thrilled with the M60s. It really boils down to personal preference. A final thought - you can NEVER have too much audio.

Welcome to the world of Axiom. I have M80's, a VP-150 centre, M22 side surround and 2 QS8 (currently back surround will be moving to side when my Full metal brackets
get here for my M22's). I personally think my setup sounds unbelievable and if you can afford to have the 22's then they are a great match and excellent for DVD-Audio and SACD playback should you choose to go down that road. A few people have direct radiator speakers for back and use them for DVD-audio sacd surrounds here. Good luck with your setup.

I am one of those few, and I can't recommend the "direct radiator for rear surround" path enough. I only wish my room had enough space to use M22's as rear surrounds. That must kick serious butt!

I feel much better. I've been drooling over the M80s for the last year now. I'm working on a semi custom HT, in wall racks, wiring and etc. It's been a work in progress. I'm actually glad that my Klipsh KG4.2 failed, it gives me an excuse to upgrade. My wife really supports this project allowing me to get what I want (now thats unusual!).
