I just picked up a Denon 2200 @ ecost for $289 and they are offering free shipping right now. It looks like they have a few more in stock if anyone is interested. Just thought I would pass on the info.

Where do you find the Denon players on ECost? All I can find is the Onkyo's.
Posted By: Ajax Re: Denon 2200 @ ecost - 06/10/04 01:01 PM
Just type "Denon" in the little search box, and click "GO." You'll get all the Denon refurbs that ecost carries. The 2200 is at the top of the list.

I think they are sold out already!

I can't seem to find one!

Wow!! ecost was extremely efficient with their processing and shipping of the Denon 2200. I live in North Alabama and I ordered it yesterday morning. Just tracked it and it is on the truck for delivery. It looks like it's origination was Memphis, TN. I am impressed, and yeah it looks like they are already sold out of those units. Thanks for the advice guys!

Alright, so I got the 2200 extremely fast from ecost. Now onto the bad stuff... I got home last night and opened it up to find that there was an inverted dent in the top of the chassis. It is right above where the DVD tray slides out. I thought, no big deal, you won't even see it once it is in a rack. I plugged it in and it powered up fine. I plugged in a DVD and it seemed to be working ok, but after a few minutes, I noticed there was a quite annoying resonance coming from the chassis. I went up to the player and it was coming from where the dent was on top of the chassis. If you apply pressure to the dent and force it back down towards the unit, it stops, but if you release the pressure it starts again. At this time I had it placed on top of a satellite receiver, so it might have been that it was simply not stable enough, and there was a little vibration. After placing it on a solid surface the resonance stopped from what I could tell. Now the weird thing is it was only doing it at like menu screens or scene selections. Once the DVD started to play into the movie, from what I saw it stopped. So I might be a little too picky about this, but hey I don't want a messed up DVD player.

One more issue...should there be any electronic interference from other components? After placing the 2200 on a solid surface I placed my satellite receiver on top of the unit, and it (the 2200) kept turning on and off by itself. I powered the satellite receiver off and there was no problem. These two problems kinda have me worried.

I called Denon because they offer a 90 day warranty on their refurb stuff, and they said call ecost first to see if they will replace it. I called ecost and found out the model was discontinued and they will not be getting any more in stock. I am S.O.L with ecost unless I want to simply get a refund, which I don't...I like the player. Should I contact Denon about this again or just keep it and see what happens in the 90 day warranty period? Would you guys be worried if your unit was doing this stuff? Any help is appreciated.

I'd check with Denon again. Sucks you got "the bad one". Seems everyone else had been pretty lucky with these things.

Jason, I'd certainly be worried if I were in your shoes. Not so much about the dent itself, but about what other damage might have happened inside the chassis. If it is not expressly prohibited in the warranty, I'd open the case myself and check to see that all the connections are seated properly. I might also try popping the dent out myself.

BUT, since the thing is still under warranty, I'd go that route first.

i just received my 2200 from ecost about a week ago. they had 31 in the morning and sold out by the end of the day. bad news, mine seems to be defective. it gives a purple color when playing in progressive mode. looks okay in interlaced, but crappy in progressive. i called ecost, they said to call denon. i called denon, they said that they had never heard of this problem, and that i should contact ecost. classic. a couple threads over at hometheaterspot.com talk about this, and there doesn't seem to be a fix, just a defective dvd player. this seems odd for a b-stock. do these defects just all of a sudden happen? as it's a b-stock, shouldn't it have been checked before being resold? ugh. i'm s.o.l. as ecost is out of them. oh well, the risks of buying online.

e-cost is an authorized reseller, and the units do come with a 90 day guarantee. I have also seen the threads at the spot about this matter, so you are not alone. I think you need to pester Denon, as it is ultimately their responsibility.

mark,
that's what i'm going to do. ecost is a deadend, as they'd take this one back but i wouldn't get a replacement (none available). i'm not really happy with denon customer service. we'll see....

Does anyone know if the DVM-1815 for $179 is a good deal at E-cost? Is it a good player? I'm more worried about the audio quality than the DVD capabilities (although I see it is quite the DVD player). I'm interested in the player for my dad for Father's day. He wants a universal player (he doesn't want to touch SACD's or DVDA's) that is a Denon because he bought a Denon reciever and likes to brand match. I would like to know if this would be a wise buy.

Jason, I had a similar experience with Ecost. My HK AVR125 was an absolute lemon-Ecost refused to provide anything except Harmon Kardon's phone number. It turns out that Ecost was not an authorized HK dealer, I did discover that PCMall is the parent company of Ecost and was an HK dealer. Harmon Kardon was great and decided to honor the warranty. After 3 visits to an authorized repair shop the receiver was deemed a lemon by Harmon Kardon and they sent me a new AVR130. Keep hammering on Denon-and if you paid with a credit card dispute the charges. My experience with Ecost was awful-price was great, but their service people were awful. (One lady in fact told me that it looked like I'd bought an expensive paperweight and that I should have read the fine print). Good luck

Ok...thanks for all the input guys. I watched a couple movies this weekend and the 2200 performed flawlessly. I will probably send it back though, just cause I am a little worried about that dent and what damage might have been caused. Thanks again for your help.

I thonk you will find that Denon does a pretty good job with service. Also. for the money saved, the occasional ding might occur, but is generally not the case. Try Denon service, but if the thing plays well, you might not be in too bad shape. Having said that, I would also prefer something pristine. It's unfortunate, because the majority of ecost input is positive.

Ray, don't thonk us!

I apologize Mike. Somtimes my thonk nerve causes severe, inadvertant thonking. If it's accompanied by a rash, it's pretty unbearable.

Update: Sent my Denon 2200 back to Denon just to make sure nothing was wrong with it. It should get there by Monday. The dent didn't make me as nervous as the unit powering on and off by itself. Denon was actually pretty easy to work with and the service guy I talked to on the phone said it sounded like something was wrong with the power supply. When he said that, I figured I would send it to them so they could check it out. I hope to hear back from them soon once they receive the unit. Has anyone ever dealt with their service dept. If so, in general how long does stuff take for repair? Thanks guys!

Thanks for reporting back. Though I'm sorry you have to be the rare one to have a problem with a refurb, it's very helpful to know just exactly what you go through in the event something similar should happen to one of us. It also enables us to give accurate advice to others. Please keep us posted. Thanks.

Jason, everything I've read about Denon service has been pretty positive. Turnaround time is a fucntion of what's there to work on before they get your unit, parts availability, difficulty in finding the problem, etc.
