After over a month of research, I've finally ordered my new home theater equipment. This is my first dive into 'good' equipment, so I can't explain how excited I am. We move into the new house tomorrow, and will have the following setup for the home theater:

Panasonic 50" LCD HDTV: Model PT50LC13
Pioneer DV-563A Prog. Scan DVD/CD Plyr
Yamaha RX-V740 Receiver
Axiom M22ti
Axiom QS8
Axiom VP150
Hsu VTF-2 Subwoofer

Did I do okay? Total cost will be around $5,000.

Cheers,
Windy City Jeff

Depending on the size of your room, I think you did just fine. I don't know what you've been watching and listening to, but the improvement should really please you.

One of the things we've talked about, here on the forum, is setting oneself up for disappointment. When you have time, read this thread. And remember, they're just speakers. They aren't gonna improve you looks, and increase your income. Be patient, give them a chance, and you'll like what you hear.

jeff-

that sounds like you will have a great system. you have definitely chosen well with your speakers. and the yamaha should push them just fine.

ajax is right.. when i got my speakers, my expectations were so high, i almost expected them to wash the dishes for me.. unfortunatley, they dont.. but they do sound pretty dang awesome, and i have played more cd's in the last 2 months, then i have in the last 2 years.. you will not be disappointed..

BTW- they might not wash the dishes, but the do a fine job of vacuuming the floor

Jeff- I am excited for you. That is a handsome setup and will provide you with hours of happy audio/video. The only issue is getting it all connected. Once that's done and you calibrate the speakers - prepare to be thrilled.

BTW - if you haven't thought about it, the Home Theater Master MX-700 is an awesome remote to replace that collection you just bought. You can catch an open box (pristine) at SurfRemoteControl for a little under $200 (MSRP - $350). Think it over. Several of the folks here, including myself, use the thing.

Jeff, that sounds like a great system. Congrats on getting started. I am not familiar with the receiver, and no offense to anyone on this board who owns the Pioneer 563, but I think that may be the link in the system you may want to upgrade.

I had started out with the 563, and while it is a very good player for the price, its picture quality was not what I was looking for, and the audio quality, while solid, was lacking a bit for me. So I upgraded to the Denon 2200, which tons of people on this board now own thanks to the $300 refurbs at ecost, and it is a superior player. Just a thought. But everything else in your system sounds great.

gem- i got the 563, which was an improvement from my sony player.

i got it used, but have had no problems with it. the audio/video playback sounds and looks great to me, although i would like more bass mgmt when listening to sacd's. but, as a whole, i think its a great unit for the price(i got mine for $85 bucks)..

with that being said, once i get a better TV, i will probably consider bucking up to the 2200 or the 2900, but for now, the 563 will/is working fine.

and you didnt offend me at all.. HT is all about personal preference and constant improvement.. the way i see it, the 563 is better than the sony i had, so i am heading in the right direction.
