I hooked up M3 with an old sony receiver in my home office last night. I must say that it gives more bass than i expect from a bookshell speaker! it even sounds better than my current bose cube with bass module. However, it also sounds not bright , if not dull to me. I probably get used to M60 already , so it may be a reason It may be the sony receiver cannot produce good sound like denon...I don't know, but i think i'd save money for another pair of M60 and M3 will be back to surround position in my hometheater...Anyone has same experience?

Have you tried setting them atop the M60s and giving them a listen in a direct comparison?

AF, it wouldn't have anything to do with the receivers, since both should be essentially equally transparent. Both the M3 and the M60 use the same tweeter and the treble shouldn't be greatly different, although the M60 crossover might set the tweeter at a slightly higher level to better suit a bigger room and a longer listening distance. As Mark's suggestion implies, possibly the difference in the rooms is affecting the results and you should compare them both in the same position.

Audiofan

Some Sony receivers are very good, some not so good, but in any case, if your M3s' tweeters are at ear level, you should be getting the full dose of Axiom high end goodness. If you're not it may be your cables (just kidding) it is probably your receiver or source. For instance, if you're listening to cassettes they do not reproduce the full range especially the highs.

Good luck!

I actually put M3 on the floor and not in the same room where M60s are. I'll try it again tonight and put it in the same ear level.
thank you all.

That, um, might have something to do with it...
