HEy, I just got the QS 8s and we mounted them about 15" or so directly above the listeners head on either side of the couch/back wall (we don't have side walls)

I think I am missing, shooting over our heads...but my reciever keeps clipping on rear..so i can't get a good feel for it.

any way...any one using the stands and aiming them ..???? somewhere?

i am thinking that is how they are best used...on the sides..not the rear.

i am talking about 5.1 BTW so not sure if side or rear...is best anyway...but since the Qs radiate so much..it might not matter a lot.

Put them on stands at each side of the couch, pointing in toward each other and you'll be much happier. If you can keep them a few feet from the ends of the couch, that would likely help with dispersion, as well. I used to have mine like that, sound was much better than their current location.

Why do you think your receiver is clipping?

Yeah that speaker arrangement on stands sounds like the best choice . I think I will order them.

the clipping..even with my other speakers and the Qs the reciever hits the protecter mode only whne the rears are getting signal. If i turn the rear channel off no clipping..no surround either...lol

i previously thought it was the last speakers witht the load..but even the Q8 are doing this.

all other channels are fine..just when the rears are on.

any other ideas?

More power!

What receiver and mains do you have? Your receiver should definitely not be clipping unless it is overmatched on the other channels. I think the QS8's are 6 ohm so they shouldn't be a problem for most current HT receivers.

Maybe you should check out the Outlaw Monoblocks discussed here.

btw, not sure what is causing the problem that audiofan is experiencing, but my experience with Outlaw is that they have great build quality and their cust svc is on a par with Axiom.

We have a SOny and HAD RCA (Shaks top line..not too bad either) at some point the rear channels started to cause to reciever to go to PROTECT mode.

After the new !S8..same thing.

it could be somewhere in the wireing?? mayve 2 wires touching? I would imagine this could do it.

but the speakers are eliminted as the variable

not sure what else could be going on..unless processers break somehow on one channel or another.

Dave if I follow, you're not actually talking about clipping, but instead that the receiver goes into protective mode and shuts off when the surrounds are operating. Since the surrounds put relatively little strain on the receiver, this shouldn't happen. As you mentioned, it may be a connection problem; disconnect and carefully reconnect everything to make sure that some strand of wire isn't loose, especially on the surrounds, of course.

I agree John

I'll have to get back there tomorrow.

I can say one other odd thing about the reciver...when you turn it on..often it sits there then a few minutes later...it magically turns on.

i hear ya about the wiring..best bet.

but there is a power problem going on that is known.
