Look at the Elite 47tx and the Denon 5803 for example...the elite has 2 of the DSPs they have in common versus the 1 on the Denon.. is this an improvement?

also the +DSP is a different chip....so almost the same but not ..

Yes, Dave, and I believe that a few months ago, as he mentioned, I turned Sat on to that link. It's interesting to go to the data sheets of the various chip makers and read about their DSPs(digital signal processors),DACs(digital to analog converters)etc. When you do that you see that the performance numbers on these chips are so good these days that they typically all perform beyond human audibility and beyond the needs of the material they'll be helping to reproduce. Equipment makers use the chip that meets their needs and negotiate the best price for the large quantities that they'll buy. For example, they can get excellent DAC chips for $1 each. So, while it may be of academic interest to read about this, it doesn't make any practical difference to the listener. For example, a use of dual DACs per channel offers a theoretical 3dB better signal to noise ratio, but it's already fine with one. Great stuff is cheap these days since the technology is now mature.

This is very interesting to me also. I've decided to get a Denon reciever and I've been debating between a lower end model such as the newer 1905 or the 3805 beauty. The 3805 is gorgeous but has power and connections I just don't need or will use for sometime. The only reason I'm considering the 3805 is sound quality.

So from what you're saying then JohnK practically speaking all DAC's are equal and I would gain no improvement in sound by going with the 3805 as opposed to a lower Denon Model?

Yes, Michael, there's no way, other factors being kept equal, that there would be an audible difference in "sound quality". Get the features that you want at the best price you can find. Very close to the 3805 is the 2805 or the identical(except silver only) 985 .

i read through some of them and understood about 1/10 of the lingo. But jsut wondering if somwhere some of the chips were put side by side to compare what they do on paper any way.
