SVS has finally announced some details (and a pre-sale at $399) on their new sub, the PB10-ISD. The response curve just blows me away.

I almost got a HSU STF-2 but I decided to wait and see how this SVS and the forthcoming Rocket sub turn out. Looks like I'll be glad I did!

Thoughts, anyone?
looks like the response starts at around 22-23Hz? look right to you? if that is correct, then that is a heck of a deal.. and to think it is coming from a 10 inch woofer..

According to the website, their preliminary tests indicate +/- 1dB from 21-125hz quasi-anechoic and +/-3dB 18-200hz.

Amazing!
And there are a bunch of B-Stock Rocket UFW-10s available now, too. This is a good day for budget subwoofers!
Drooooooolllll....

Pity I need a new video card...
If I didn't already have a PB1-ISD, I'd be all over this! Amazing performace. I can't wait for someone to do a head to head with an STF-1 or 2.
Damn! I forget the exact details, but a graph I saw by a reviewer of the HSU STF-2 went down pretty quickly after 33 Hz. That graph is amazing.

I'm sure SVS tainted the graphs a bit. If they didn't, that's great - the idea of $550 being 'entry level' was insane. The other subs in the price range take $400 out of your pocket and you still barely extend the response below 60 Hz of the axiom floorstanders. Strong output at 20 Hz should be attainable at that price, and I'm glad SVS did it.
Th, this may be the review that you're thinking of.
If I didn't own a PB2-Plus...I'd have considered a pair of those.....but ya know

Daphoid- you are about to make me puke over here.. you ALREADY have the sub that 98% of us have had wet dreams about.. dont mention upgrade again or i am gonna punch you clean out right thru this computer screen!!

And I'll be there to kick him when he lands.
I don't want to hear it from either of you. I'm stuck with my Cambridge Soundworks sub until it dies. Do subs die often? How about TVs? Or CDPs?
I've heard squeezing cats over unwanted electronics will facilitate replacement...

Um... I don't think I'm that desperate.

want pics?

nope, i saw them.. the damn thing looked like a small car next to that china cabinet..

i am sure it fits well in your basement dwelling. just make sure you have the screws to those FMB tightened real good.. i would hate for one of those QS8's to fall and knock you in your big, fat, bass filled head!! can you tell i am jealous??

bigjohn,

Take a look at the frequency response of that sub with the different tunings.

Look at the dual 12" drivers capable of over two inches of linear travel, capable of producing over 97 decibels of clean, accurate bass at 16 Hz. Powered by an efficient 900 watt amp.

Hey Daphoid, I have a question for you, since you have the same receiver as I do and almost the same sub. I have the PB1-Plus. How do you have it configured? I just got mine last night and I'm getting really low output. What do you have your 3805 sub output gain set at?

A question to all - are coax video cables the same as coax audio cables or is there impedance matching built in? My sub cable isn't here yet so I've been trying to improvise, with no luck. I set the receiver gain to +12dB for the sub output and I have to turn the sub gain past 1/2 just to hear anything. I should be getting blown out of the room at that level. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Pete

Thasp- those frequency responses are sexiest curves i have seen in a long while!! if those woofers could cook and clean, i would almost marry 'em!!

Daphoid- thanks for the new pics. BTW- i think there needs to be some warning signs posted above your bed.. DANGER- BASS LEVELS ABLE TO EXCEED THRESHOLD TO MAKE YOU PEE IN YOUR PANTS!!.. better yet, let some fool fall asleep in your bed, then wake him up with the depth charge scene in U-571.. if he was your friend, he wont be for long!!

Regarding Configuration of SVS:

1. Set gain to 1/3 or 1/4
2. Plug 1 port hole (doesn't matter which)
3. Set subsonic filter to 20hz
4. disable crossover
5. Set crossover in the 3805 to 80hz
6. Place the Denon Mic (if you have it) in the primary listening position, then run Auto Setup

In my room it set the subwoofer to +2.5. If you tap the next to the center buttons (on the actual unit) it's the button that adjusts trebel/bass, I can't remember what the button is labeled. I set bass to +3 DB on there.

After you've calibrated, move the gain up to about half way, maybe less, maybe a little more.

For movies I dropped the sub down to 0DB, but for music it's at +4.5 as I found in 5ch stereo I needed a little more, hope this helps!
